PLEASE HELP!! I need some advice. I tried to schedule an appointment with my OB about possibly getting some restrictions for work (PCT at a hospital-physically demanding) and I was told to leave a message for his nurse. I did, and I expressed my concerns about the fact that I’ve had multiple pregnancies in the past 9 months and that I feel like this pregnancy needs to be more closely monitored and protected. She called me back and she said that my OB won’t put me on any restrictions because he wants to ensure it’s a “viable pregnancy” and that it’s not proven that lifting and pulling on 250 pound patients can cause miscarriages. This infuriated me. I mean, I don’t want to go through another miscarriage! I’ve tried to conceive for two years and I want to ensure I’m protected!
I hope you don’t think I’m weird but I did a little snooping after reading you’ve had so many miscarriages. I was going to suggest getting your thyroid checked but saw you had! That was the single most effective thing that helped me so get and stay pregnant so definitely get that checked regularly because it will fluctuate at first! They might put you on restrictions when you’re further along, but I’d just try to live life right now and try not to stress!
@1818.whiterabbit you don't have to get a doctor's note to be put on light duty at work. Just talked to your job let them know and I'm sure they will take care of you. I went through the same thing. I was a housekeeper at a hotel and when I found out I was pregnant they automatically put me on light duty made sure I had a walkie-talkie on me at all times and kept me on the first floor changed all my chemicals to natural chemicals and I still had to wear a mask. I'm sure your job will take care of you.
I would insist on an appointment with the doctor to discuss face to face. The receptionist doesn’t know what she’s talking about. If you call back say you want to talk to someone with MD next to their name. Not a nurse. A doctor has gone to school longer than a nurse and that is who I’m paying for information. Not a nurse. Idk if they would put you on restrictions, but you at least have the right to speak to your doctor about it.
@wheelercharle4, at least one of mine was because of a physical assault, but I don’t know what the others were from. Thank you so much for your advice!
@1818.whiterabbit I'm positive. I have worked in nursing homes or CILA homes for both of my pregnancies. I never got restrictions and I also didn't want them. Not to mention my doctor does not give orders for restrictions even if I had wanted them unless there is a real reason for them. It is hurtful to hear, but miscarriage in the first trimester is typically because of chromosomal issues or some other problem that you can't control, not because of physical activity.
@wheelercharle4, are you sure? Even with so many miscarriages within a few months?
Lifting and stuff won't hurt your pregnancy, I'm 36 weeks and just got put on lifting restrictions- not to protect my baby, but to protect my back. If you are used to doing it before baby, you are perfectly safe yo do it while pregnant. If issues come up that cause you to need to be careful, your doctor will let you know. I had a subchor hemmorhage with this pregnancy and still lifted patients 200+ lbs and it resolved itself on its own. There was no reason for anyone to be rude, I promise you will be fine in fact it's healthier for you to continue to be as active as you were before pregnancy and not change your daily life at all (unless you develop complications) nothing you do can hurt a baby that early on.😁
Anyone else that wants to comment with an attitude can keep scrolling. I was asking for advise, not for someone to argue with me.
@damn.it.red, this is my FOURTH time being pregnant, thanks. And rolling your eyes at me is included in an attitude.
@blakeslatinmama, why wait until I’m NOT as likely to miscarriage to begin preventing miscarriage? That makes zero sense.
that’s understandable, but you don’t have to wait until I’m 10 weeks to see the baby on the ultrasound.
@sierrapw23, I couldn’t agree more! They said they wouldn’t do anything until after my ultrasound on July 9th! Total BS!
@1818.whiterabbit, mine did that too!!! WTH!? I ended up quitting because the nurse said to come to my appointment to get work restrictions but that was a month away at the time and it seemed my only option was to quit. This is bull you should be able to schedule anything you want! On their time of course we all know doctors have multiple patients but still how hard is it to just schedule a 30 minute appointment just to write/console you about this. I wish they were more personal!
@eutley21, I’m probably going to change OB’s. I like him a lot but I need someone to be attentive to my pregnancy.
Yes make another appointment ASAP, I would change doctors if that’s what it took. That’s ridiculous, everyone knows there’s no heavy lifting during pregnancy.
@sierrapw23, that’s what I tried to do with the receptionist, and she told me to talk to the nurse
That’s bullshit! My OBs nurse is exactly like this too. It might just be the nurse talking for the doctor! I would make an appointment and talk to him/her directly
@eutley21, @nathenamartinez, I’m sooo upset. “Viable pregnancy??” Really? Omg I’ve cried on and off since she said that yesterday. I’ll probably go to my PCP and look for another referral. I’m definitely worried and I feel like I have a right to be. 😭
Of course you have a right a mom knows what's best especially when it comes to your body your traumatized given your past history you want reassurance and they might see it as paranoid or worrisome or special treatment but that's bs... Go to someone who listen if they dont
