I was told I needed a referral but thankfully I found a dentist that doesn’t need referrals and he can diagnose and treat there . Fingers crossed that this fixes our breastfeeding
@csbj12517, thank you I found a dentist who will do it today . I’m scared for it not to work because it’s not covered by my insurance and it’s expensive lol
My dd had one and when she got braces last summer when she turned 9, the orthodontist lasered it off. She said it didn’t hurt, but it was a little sore the next day.

A pediatrician can take care of that very quickly. My friend's baby had one and it was basically a quick snip
I had one and had it surgically removed during orthodontic treatment. caused my "gap" (space in between two front teeth) to be very big. But other than that no issues. My mom didnt breastfeed me either so no advice there. Good luck
Kids were never put out here. Only given numbing meds for it. Even my kids never were put out for it. The risk of putting kids under are too high for it to be considered as an option.
My 3 year old had tongue and lip tie. Both were corrected in the ents office at 5 months. It took maybe 30 seconds (if That). It healed very quickly. 30 mins later it was like he forgot it even happened. Bleeding was minimal... fixed his latch issues and eliminated pain for me.

@sorcha, do you know if the moms you know kids had to be put out ?
My oldest was almost 2 weeks old (lost a pound of birth weight his first week of life). We had to push to get him rushed in.
His sister had hers done at a week old after her stay in the NICU.
My friend had her 2 year old's just done and a few other moms I know had them done later (within the first year).

@sorcha, how old were your kids when they got it removed and fixed ?

@essemmxo, yeah they don’t want to put her under so we have to wait to remove it till she’s older and can stay still for them to numb the area. And no I didn’t have issues breastfeeding but I was lucky in that matter because I know other babies who had it and they had issues with feedings and they would be fussy
Mine didn't latch well either. And they both took in a ton of air making them gassy and tired.
Where I am it can be treated privately or through a doctor's referal. We did it privately through a local dentist who specialize in these ties versus being on the waitlist for the pediatrician who does it. The pediatrician does it with scissors but the dentist did the release with a laser. We did go through several second opinions and all pointed at the laser release being the best fit.
What we learned is that some dentists laser ties while doing other dental work. The release also helps with speech development as well.
@its.sarah, I bet it’s much harder to get it removed now that she’s older and aware of what’s going on. If you don’t mind me asking , did you have any issues breastfeeding?
@sorcha, 😖 she doesn’t latch well and I was looking at it but was in denial how did you get it treated

Yup that’s a lip tie. I just found out my daughter has a lip tie but she’s one now and her teeth already came in and gave her a gap so the doctors told me it’s pointless to remove it now if we would’ve found out before she got teeth they would’ve removed it. Talk to your pedi about it
