I need to vent before my head explodes.
I enrolled my son in a private Catholic school for kindergarten. We are not Catholic, or even religious. C has social anxiety and was diagnosed with ADHD in April. The school only has 7 children enrolled for kindergarten, so we feel he will get the extra attention and help he needs there. The schools attendance is declining so they were thrilled when we enrolled. Tuition is $3000 and I’ll be commuting TWO hours everyday. That part sucks, but we have to do what’s best for C.
My SIL contacted me a couple months ago asking when C’s testing was. I didn’t get anything in the mail about it. Her son also goes there so luckily she had the schedule. We went for testing and were told they LOST his paperwork. Which included his friggin SS#!!!
Fast forward to last month. I got a letter saying they need to have a meeting with me. I called immediately and was told they return today, June 11. I made the appt for 11am. I got to the school today and nobody’s there! I called from outside the school and the recording says they’ll be back tomorrow. I drove a fucking hour, and got a babysitter, for NOTHING.
Wtf am I paying these people for?! You lose my kids paperwork and can’t even keep a damn appointment. And I’m supposed to trust you with my kid? 🤬

I wouldn’t trust them with my kid.... or that money. Sorry red, must be so frustrating and infuriating. I dont know what I would do if they lost the paper work with the ss#.

This is not a good sign! Do you have any charter schools near you that might be a better fit? I’ve always worked for school and the irresponsibility you are describing here is concerning.

I’m sorry, that must be SO frustrating and would definitely have me questioning whether this would be a good fit for us. Unfortunately I’ve seen private schools do this with children who have special needs/require extra attention. They will “lose” paperwork or somehow not notify you of something and all of a sudden you’ve missed a deadline. It’s pretty terrible, and maybe that’s not what’s happening here, but to be honest I would not be surprised if that were the case.

Sorry you’re going through this. Is there any other private school available? I would definitely draw the line at the missed appointment. Completely unprofessional for a ‘educational school’

My SIL kids went/go there and she’s never had a problem. She’s become so close with some of the staff, they even go on family vacations together. When her 5yo started preschool he was being tested for autism. The school did amazing with him and he thrived all year. So I was soooo hopeful and sure this was the perfect fit for us.
There aren’t any other private schools nearby. We live in the country so everything is so far from us. The public schools here are so overcrowded and constantly drop programs due to no funding. The teachers max out their vaca days every year and there’s always substitute teachers. Everyone is underpaid and overworked, and the kids suffer from it. Our closest middle school is amazing, but of course that doesn’t help right now.
I’m so frustrated. How do I choose between an irresponsible small school where he’d hopefully receive extra help, and an overcrowded school where he probably wouldn’t thrive? 😔

@redheadedmonster, as much as I would be infuriated with how they have been working, I would stay. Your issues with them have been issues with you and them, not them and your son. So if that’s the case I would put up with it solely for his benefit.

I agree with @glencoco, as much as your frustrated right now I would stay. Your sil can vouch first hand that they are good and your sils 5 yo got the help and care he needed. My nephew has adhd and to be honest he goes to a catholic school (not private) and they do not and never have given him the help or attention he needs. They often call home and ask for someone to pick him up simply because they can’t deal, he’s not a bad kid at all and I’ve never had an issue with him when you give him what he NEEDS.

Welp, I guess I don’t have to ask how the meeting went 😡 this school has BEEN on my damn nerves. But I agree with @glencoco, you know C. He would be so overwhelmed and completely shut down in a normal setting with all of the kids and chaos. At the very least let him go for a year and then decide if it’s worth it to keep him there. A classroom of 7 sounds amazing! There was 28 kids in my daughters class and lord knows she didn’t get the attention she needs.

@redheadedmonster oh hell no boo. Okay my first reaction is to huff and puff and blow that batch down... but I digress😖😡
C needs the undivided attention.. over any and everything else. I would sit down and have a meeting with the principal or whomever and let them know ALL of my concerns. Tell them what has been happening is unacceptable and for 3k you demand more professionalism and accountability.
I'm sure they want what's best for C. Let's just hope it's been a bad week for them and they get it together asap.

I’d be pissed! This sounds like something our private school would do. Stick it out a little longer. When a school is this small they don’t always quite run as smoothly in the office BUT the classroom setting usually makes up for it. Hope you get it all worked out!

I’ve been calling and there’s no answer. My SIL texted the office lady so she called me apologizing. I go tomorrow at noon to see what they have to say 🙄
