My son had his surgery yesterday and after he woke up he was in a lot of pain and he asked me why…

@mamabird228, thank you,he has congenital cholesteatoma, is a disease that’s in you middle ear and it infects and eats away at the bone and the went in to remove it (it’s a mass like substance) and found out that out of the ears 3 small bones two of them were completely eaten away so in a year her will need another surgery to reconstruct them. They also had to reconstruct his eardrum this time. They also told me I should have my other children monitored and checked for as well because it can be genetic.

Surgery mom🙋‍♀️ my son has had 2 so far. Will have another between the ages of 6 to 8 💔😭

My youngest has had a fair few different procedures since birth, it's really hard for them to understand.

She's still really young so doesn't understand any of it (she's 3.5yrs) but she finds it really scary especially when they prep her and do her IV and sedation.

Will he require ongoing surgery for it?

There are a number of different books out there that may help him understand.

@amk212, yeah he will need to be monitored for life. they said the disease will always be there and will need more surgery to clean it out every time it comes back.

I'm sorry love it sucks..my 5yr old had surgery back in March to fix his bone cyst after her broke his arm 3 times..I remember feeling so helpless seeing him get put under brought my husband to tears I stayed with the baby in the waiting room and couldn't see him until he was out of recovery and in a room when I walked in I saw my baby hooked up with tubes in his nose etc I balled my eyes out. It's very hard to deal with it my hearts with you sending my love 💖💖💖💖💖

@sarab.estrada anytime 💖agreed it's like you want to protect them so bad but you know they have to go through this when all you wanna do is wrap them in your arms and wish it would go away 😔

@sarab.estrada I'm so sorry to hear that. You may find as he gets older that he will begin to understand, in the meantime maybe see if the hospital has books they can recommend.

Seeing your own child in pain is heartbreaking beyond words.

@mamabird228, he has lost 40% of his hearing in that ear and they are hopeful that because the nerve looks good that after the next surgery he might get some of his hearing back.
