The handmaids tale? Is anyone else watching this? Wth?

I forgot it was going to tv. I’ve only read the book, but I definitely enjoyed it. What is shocking for you? Should I not watch it?

I watched the whole season as it aired.

I'm on the very first episode on hulu. As far as I can tell some type of contamination has made all the women infertile. So now the ones that aren't are being forced into surrogacy?

It covers the book loosely in my opinion. If they air a second season it will be entirely made up, as the first season ends where the book ends.

That show is awesome and scary at the same time. From my understanding the writer based a lot of the book off actual events. And Hulu is working with the writer on season two because the book ends just let the first season does. There's no second book. Deff a good watch I finished it in 4 days.

Did you not read the handmaids tale on school? I haven't seen the series but I remember the novel well. Margaret Atwood has said that she was careful not to use anything that hadn't happened at some point in history when she wrote it, which is what makes it so chilling, I think. Gilead is a fundamentalist Christian theocracy taken to its logical extreme.

I started to watch the first episode. I was sobbing uncomfortably as they pried her daughter away from her and had to turn it off. Pregnancy hormones...

I'll start it again when I have more control over my emotions.

No, a nuclear holocaust hasn't caused mass infertility. But the social aspects of the book are all pulled from real societies and historical accounts.

Surrogacy definitely isn't the right word. I don't know why but its really disturbing to me.

I just binged watched it this week! I wanted to post about it but I realized I'm watching it late and didn't want to gush about something everyone else has already seen. I loved it, I'm going to read the book next.

Oh it's so good! SO and I started watching it Friday and we're on episode 4. We love it

Such an interesting watch. So close to reality in some of it to make it just that bit disturbing. I can't wait until season 2. I had never heard of the story until this show. What a cliffhanger ending.
