letting go
My adoptive parents were OK people. I think they tried. My "mother" was incredibly physically abusive. Kicks, punches, bloody noses, stitches, you name it. I've moved on from the physical pain but what I just can't seem to get over is her words.

Are you in therapy at all? I think it's really important to remember that hurt people hurt people. She wasnt happy with herself so she hurt you so you could suffer too.
It doesnt make it right but understanding the reason behind behavior can help us forgive.
My mother was abusive as well. We get along now but I still am not completely over the hell she put me through as a child.*hugs*

Also how people feel about themselves is how they treat others. She was obviously miserable and took it out on you. It had nothing to do with you. I'm sorry you were the victim of another persons insecurities.

I know she had a lot of pain. I don't hate her. I think she didn't know how to handle us. I just want to be able to forgive her so I can stop hurting.
I have been to therapy but it seems they always want to focus on my addiction. I've been clean for a long time but I just can't seem to stop replaying it over and over.

Just to be clear I'm talking about my adoptive parents. I didn't meet my real mother until a few years ago.

I'm so sorry, OP. I hope you can soon find a place inside yourself that you can let go of the pain this woman has caused you. You deserve happiness and peace, and you will find it. You are worth so much. If you ever need to talk, I am here!
