Trying to decide if I want to do a waterbirth than a traditional hospital birth, but I'm torn because I'm afraid of doing it without epidural. Those who have had a waterbirth how were your experiences?

I'll be honest, I didn't birth my child in the tub, but I did the majority of my laboring in the tub at home and it really sped things up. Something about the water relaxes your body and the contractions hurt, but it wasn't awful. I did almost all of my laboring at home in my tub. We got to the hospital and I was 9cm. Less than a half an hour later my son was here.

@mississippi.mama when the contractions start did you just get into tub and wait it out long as possible . I've wanted to try this because water makes me feel 1000x better and I want to try to stay home long as possible!

And I had my second daughter natural and it is very painful but you can do it just breathe! Medicine scares me that's why I wanted to do it natural lol

@bbhausfeld77 Yep. I had my EO diffuser blasting out lavender so I could stay calm and relaxed. You have to be careful though. If your water breaks in the tub, you do not get out. At least that's what my midwife told me. My water did not break. My son would have been born still in the sac of waters but the midwife broke it after his head was out. I swear to God I pushed 1.5 times and he was out.
Brooke ·
@mississippi.mama so if your water breaks you stay in ? Lol I'm confused!!

@mississippi.mama wow that's amazing! A close friend had both her babies at home and she did say that the water helped with the pain. My first son my waterbroke and I ran to the hospital right away and I was fully dilated after 5 hours so it was a smooth quick delivery but I know you can't base it off that because every pregnancy and labor is different.

@bbhausfeld77 if it breaks in the tub, yes. I didn't think to ask why lol
Nelly Ashworth ·
@mississippi.mama I did not know that. I'm going to ask about that when I go meet with the midwife.

I didn’t have a water birth but I want to with my next. I did have my son without an epidural though. It’s very intense and painful but as soon as I pushed him out everything was fine. And I healed very quickly too, I didn’t need any stitches. It’s such an amazing thing going natural !!
