Are there procedures for if she disagrees? And she wants to go against medical advice and carry on with a homebirth?

Can doctors physically refuse to treat her?

What happens?

I’m in a sort of similar situation

Because I had low iron, I’ve been told i can’t have a waterbirth , but I’ve had 2 previous waterbirth , fast , natural labours with minimal blood loss . And my iron still hadn’t been checked yet, so there’s a chance it could have got to the right point. But they aren’t budging and I feel like fighting them, because I know my body, I know why I’m doing and surely I can get out the tub straight after and have the placenta delivered quickly and blood loss can be controlled?

It’s mainly the blood loss with low iron, so why can’t they work with me instead I just saying no?

@strange96 she's not coping with the pain. We never fight the client. If she wants to go to the hospital she's more than welcome to but she's past the point of epidural and just had to stick out the pain. There's no other medical reason

So say you were dealing with my situation, how would you go about it? Are there rules you have to follow? X

@strange96, there are rules. If your anemic you wouldn’t be allowed to have a homebirth and your care would be transferred. Only low risk women can have homebirths.

@strange96 in my practice we try natural techniques and try to bring your hemoglobin up. Really depends on your starting numbers but I was anemic and started with low iron at first but still had a home birth

We by law can’t serve women who have a hemoglobin of 10.5 or less

It’s ok, I’m not looking for a homebirth , I want a water birth and they have one on the delivery suite, so I could use it. By they are reluctant to let me go in 😐

So I’d be on the correct ward and ready for intervention if needed, but not allowed in the actual tub

12 days ago it was 7.3 and I know that is super low level, but they found I have a b12 deficiency and that was zapping my iron, so I’ve had 6 jabs of b12 to get it up in hopes it’ll raise my iron as I have good iron stores apparently. I have a blood test later on this week to check iron again so if it’s gone up to the correct level, I want to fight for my right to have a waterbirth

But they seem to be fighting with me over the water birth part xx

@strange96 rooting for you! Hopefully the blood test comes back great! Every woman should have a say. I know how it's like. I hope you can at least labor in the tub

@serrano_girl, had the blood test today! My iron is now 9.1! So in 10 days it’s gone up from 7.4! Bad news is, I need a blood transfusion tomorrow as my levels have dropped and raised so dramatically, they don’t want to predict what’s gunna happen in the next 11 days til I’m due, so they want to get my iron up even more, just as back up in case it does drop again . So 🤞🏻 I will be allowed in the water even if it’s just to help with labour pain xx

@strange96 omg!! Yay! By labor it might be right where it needs to be if it jumped that high! Water was such a help for me during labor. I'm so happy for you!!
