THIS. I keep stressing this on posts I see saying “happy Memorial Day” and people thanking service members for serving. Don’t thank us today. This isn’t our day.

My husband (who is in the army) just explained this to his aunt this morning! He got tired of people texting him thanking him for his service when today is not a day for him!

@queenmeeks, and what's up with people wishing Happy Memorial Day? It should be a time for reflecting and remembrance of those who sacrificed their life for this country, and instead, it's a "hey let's barbecue and hit the beach" celebration because you get a day off work 😔

@scruffy.nerf.herder exactly. Nothing about this day is happy, period. People get so caught up in having a day off of work and hanging with family and friends in the nice weather that the meaning behind the day is lost on them. They either don’t know the difference between the days or they simply just don’t care.

I'm retired military and I still get it from active service members/ civilians.

@caliqueen87, it's always an awesome thing when the general public acknowledges military for what they do and sacrifices they've made, because that doesn't happen often enough. But I'm with you on keeping Memorial Day for what it was meant to be.

@chelseaz I am not sure if folks are looking at the word correctly. Memorial- in memories of...... Just like when we die its called memorial service!

My uncle is veteran and he told me today he puts happy in front of memorial day because he wants to remember the happy good times he had with fallen soldiers he stood beside in combat. He said he knows is a day to morn but ir shouldn't just be all about that jt should be about the fun happy memories as well with the person.
