Unfortunately people at hospitals aren’t always car seat certified. I believe if you look at your manual it should say that the straps should be at or below the shoulders for rear facing car seats. Above the shoulder is for forward facing.

@alexishatcher16, he’s a cutie! Just curious how did they say to do it? This really isn’t secure they are very loose. Is this the lowest slot for the straps or is there one below it?

@misscarter9313, just because they’re doctors doesn’t make them automatically certified either. It doesn’t take a certification to see that those straps are aren’t safe.

🙋🏼🙋🏼🙋🏼🙋🏼 actually is certified. It’s hard to tell because of the head pillow. But the straps need to be AT or below, they also need to be tighter and the chest clip needs to be even with the armpits.

Not under his arm. The shoulder straps should be coming from behind his shoulders and over, not from above. There are several slats to adjust the height of the shoulder straps so that he is secure as possible. No one is trying to offend you. We’re trying to help.

I would think that the people who made the car seat would know how to use it but... 🤷🏻‍♀️

Technically @skymomof4, trying to educate her so her beautiful son is as safe as possible is saying something nice. The truth may not always be what we want to hear, but it doesn’t make it any less true.

@alexishatcher16, if the straps are coming from too high above the shoulders for rear facing or too loose (like in your pic) the baby in an accident will be forced to fly upwards and possibly up out of the seat. You want them to be tight in there with no room to move at all.

Please show this picture to your dr next time you see them, I bet they are going to say those straps are way too loose. If they don’t they really shouldn’t be a specializing in pediatrics.

People are not trying to make her feel bad, they’re trying to give her information on a subject that could determine whether her child lives or dies in a car crash. If it were something as simple as what outfit he’s wearing or the brand of baby gear we wouldn’t care. Life or death topics will always have advice on them if it is in the best interest of the child.

@skymomof4, just because he won’t slip out doesn’t mean that internal decapitation won’t happen. Take it from someone who lost a family member from it. If you had a 4 year old die from internal decapitation because of improper restraint, you would understand.

These are direction from your carseat manual. Carseats can be confusing sometimes and it took me three kids to fully get it down! Want your little man to be safe!
