Today couldn't get any worse! I bought a car last week, and today the salesman called me to tell me that the company I got the loan through needs a certain form filled out and faxed to them because when they ran my social security number, they found that it is linked to multiple accounts and multiple different people. In other words, my identity has been stolen and now in order to keep my new car I have to verify my identity. Doesn't seem too complicated right? Well I went to the social security office to get this "form" they need and the lady tells me she has no idea what I'm talking about!

Go down to the garage that you bought the car and talk to them directly. I never believe people over the phone. Maybe you’ll get more information from them

Strange to me they gave you a loan without verifying that first. And why is the salesman calling you and not the loan officer? All sounds very strange to me!

@masseymomma16 I'm not sure! I called the dealership back to ask more questions. I'm still confused about it all. I'm gonna call the loan place directly and see what they have to see!

Pull up your credit report, too. It should show any accounts opened in your name. That's how I found someone had tried to open a credit card in mine. After I fixed that I put a freeze on my credit.
But if anything you should get a letter in the mail from the loan company, not a phone call from the dealership. And really, they should've found that out when they ran it at the dealership! They don't give out loans without making sure it's all legit!
