Most of the stories I've heard have been men or elderly women. I'm clueless to how it could happen but tell ya what, I'll be calling and asking where my child is if I don't have them. The things you have to worry about in this day and age.
I forget that I don't have my kids. I will turn around to unbuckle one and see an empty seat. I have never once forgotten I had them though. But I've left my phone, money, and debt cards in my car multiple times. I guess some people have some shitty values....
@tiredmom I do the same. I'll go to get my daughter out and be like oh yeah. She didn't come with me lol but idk how people leave their kids in a car. I knew a girl who locked her baby in the car. She had to call AAA to come unlock her door. It's quite sad. Like where are your priorities at?
How can someone not forget their phone/wallet but do forget their children in the car??? Excuses🙄🙄
Some cars now like my own even ding with a notification on the dash saying to check the back seat if it senses any weight back there
I always have my kids with me! I went back to work right before I was pregnant with my second I would drop him off at day care and when I would get to work I would turn around to check to make sure I did in fact drop him off( I know I did) than I would get out look in my backseat to double check and after I clocked in I would have to go check again because I had such bad anxiety about it even though I knew he wasn’t in the car. Daycare check him in and they were already sending me pictures of him.
I don’t know how people forget there children but can remember there phones and such. it’s such a sad world now.
@bitchcraft @bsandra Excuses indeed. Like get your damn priorities straight! I will NEVER EVER understand how a mom could "forget" her child.
Doesnt your child make noises? Don't you remember putting your child in the car? Do you not care?
Like come on!
@mombie. It really is a sad world. I forget my phone and sometimes wallet in the car. But that's because they are not my important concern. My concern is my child. Get my daughter out, grab her stroller or shopping cart, put her in and head into the store. It really hurts my brain how often I guess this happens.
@gummybear728, sadly it happened because some people thinks it’s the easy way out and don’t wanna be parents and instead of putting there child up for adoption there selfish
Or some people are just to stress out and have to much on there mind and sadly honestly forget
Or people who have depression or mental illness. Definitely not making excuses for anyone but some people just don’t think it will happen to them until it does and it’s absolutely sad and beyond unfair to there children who have to suffer and die 😔 I really hope one day this world starts being better but unfortunately when that time comes none of us will be around to see it.
The reporter totally chose the wrong word in saying "something valuable". Of course your child is invaluable.
But some parents or caregivers are absentminded. People do dumb things. They leave pets or kids in cars, they leave dangerous objects around their children, they don't buckle their kids in properly. And why? Sometimes ignorance, sometimes forgetfulness, and sometimes for convenience.
If telling someone to put their phone or purse in the backseat saves even one child's life, it's worth doing it. After years of owning a phone or purse, you're quick to realize that it's missing. If you're a new parent or aren't used to having a kid in the car, it's not as second nature.
Of course it's sad that this happens, and I wish it never did. But dammit, if putting my purse in the backseat conditions me to look back there before exiting my car, it seems like a pretty solid plan.
@mombie. It just breaks my heart for those poor babies/children... I hope our children or children's children get to see the world as a better place... There's so much wrong in this world that it scares me for my children.
@leowifey I mean, I always forget my purse and wallet. Hell, I'm just a forgetful person. But when I became a first time mom, I never forgot my child. I deal with depression, anxiety, and PTSD. I can say one thing but sometimes completely forget what I just said. But when it came to my daughter, she was always the first thing I thought about when I woke up, got in and out of my car, (even when she wasn't with me) and so on. She was constantly on my mind. Maybe because of the trauma I went through and I'm over protective and don't want anything to happen to her? Idk. But I just can't wrap my head around how some one could stop forget because they have a lot going on or such things.
There was a story I heard that a couple had a new baby- lack of sleep- Dad took mom to work or an appt or something and when he got home he went inside and fell right to sleep. He wasn’t thinking clearly. It’s so sad. That one I truly believed. I could never forget, but it is crazy after having a new baby.
@amysbabies I heard that story too...Sleep deprivation... It really is so sad
@gummybear728 I can't imagine forgetting about my child either. But that doesn't mean others are incapable of it. Most people don't need to be reminded to check for their child, but the sad truth is that some people do.
@gummybear728, exactly me to all we can do is teach our children to be nice and kind and love them we brought them into this world it’s our job to love them protect them and teach them the right ways
I don’t think the reporter was thinking when she used those words. But I don’t believe it’s an excuse. This one story I saw broke my heart. This woman NEVER dropped her daughter off at daycare for some reason her husband couldn’t and she had too. She said as she drove off she drove straight to work (her usual routine). Baby did not make not one noise the whole ride and car seat was out of her sight from her rear view window. She went into work as usual I believe she realized it about maybe 2 hours later when the daycare called her but it was too late. Also a lot of stories lack of sleep and things like that. I’ve honestly never forgotten my kid ever but I’m also very very protective and am a high anxiety person. I over check things all the time. It’s just a really sad tragedy and I hope it becoming more aware will save lives. Actually the feature in the car is a great way to prevent it. Also some gps once you reach your destination tells you to check the back seat for children.
@fuhgeddaboudit sadly, it is not a joke. People do this. I don't know how but they do.

How the hell do you forget about your child in the backseat?
