overprotective?

My dh & I were talking about our dd who 2 1/2 going to stay with her grandparents for a week after the baby comes. (His parents) just to give me time to heal without having to worry about her and I newborn. As well give him so time to get kinda used to what a newborn is like. (Poor guy is clueless no experience with any baby younger than six months) but he says I'm being overprotective bc I know I'm going to call and check on her everyday. It's not that I'm worried about his mom or anything. I do that with whoever is watching her. Which I think that's what a parent is supposed to do. Is it overreacting to check in on her every day?
