This is from the first time I knew she was satisfied from mamas milk! Breastfeeding has not been an easy journey for us. She had jaundice so from the beginning we needed to supplement. Because the hospital I have birth in is baby friendly they offered me this simple device called an SNS and a nipple shield to supplement straight from the breast. At first I used formula in it, but as soon as my milk came in I supplemented with pumped milk. After the jaundice cleared, I stopped using the SNS. But Zoe was not liking that very much. She got used to the steady flow and not having to work to get milk. So for about a week it was screams and frustration and crying from both of us as we practice to nurse with just the shield. Per the LC we would wean from one thing at a time. Zoe didn't gain her birth weight back by two weeks, so I started to supplement 30ml-1oz of milk in a bottle after about half her feedings. She finally gained her weight back at 4 weeks. Also after she got used to nursing without the SNS I started to try and wean from the shield, and for about a week now she has been nursing shield free!! At 8 weeks old she gets 4oz now (Know his because of a bf support group.) That face makes it all worth it!
