Birth story! Liam A Diaz was born on his due date 1/26/16 at 2:41 P:M. He weighs 7 pounds 7 ounces. 19 inches long. The day before my due due date I woke up with mild cramping and pink watery discharge. At 9:30 pm I was woken up from a nap with a sharp pain that felt like a contraction, had another sharp pain at Midnight and several minutes later had another sharp pain so I began timing them. My contractions started at about 6 minutes apart. I called my midwife at 2:30 am and they were about 2-3 minutes apart and getting worse. She told me I could go in when I felt necessary, I took a shower, fixed my hair and put on a little make up ( just some mascara) and left at 3:45 am. I got to the hospital at 4:15 am. They put me into a room and checked me I was 3cm dilated and 100% effaced the nurse was sure I was in labor. Contractions began to get unbearable I was crying and couldn't bare the pain so I got the Epi at about 6:00 am. I felt much better and began to rest. They checked me again at 9:00 am because I was complaining about pain and I was at 6 1/2 cm and my water was leaking, they broke my water. Around 11:00 am My epidural started not to work they gave me phenol but I was still feeling pain, they took out my Epi and gave me another one the nurse suspected something was wrong with the catheter. Instantly felt better and went into like a deep sleep around 11:30 am. Got woken up around 1:50pm because the nurse wanted to put this ball back between my legs to open my pelvis. 10 minutes after having the ball between my legs I called the nurse in and told her I was experiencing a lot of pressure in my bum. She checked me and I was at 10cm. She called my midwife but just my luck another lady was ready to push and this was her 4th baby and my midwife expected she would be quick so went to help her first. I was trying to relax but had a great urge to push! The nurse told me it was okay for me to start pushing this was at 2:05pm I pushed and pushed and the nurse told me she needed me to try and hold out for a bit because the babies head was really low and she didn't want to deliver this baby by herself. I held off as long as I could but I couldn't do it for much longer. Finally about 5 minutes after screaming I can't hold him anymore and started pushing again my midwife walked in. I kept pushing, it was the most intense thing I ever did! I was shaking, I couldn't breathe and kept screaming I couldn't do it. I was begging my midwife to just pull him out! After one last big pus Liam came out at 2:41pm. He cried immediately they placed him on my chest for skin to skin and waited for his cord to stop pulsating before my husband cut it. After about 20 mins of skin to skin they took him to check his weight and temp. And delivered my placenta and stitched me put. I had 1st degree tares and had 4 stitches. Giving birth was the hardest, most life changing beautiful thing I've ever done I'm so proud of myself! I'm in love with my baby! Motherhood so far feels amazing.
