workaholick.... family coming second.

workaholick.... family coming second.

So I started working again this year. Started back in Jan. Honestly I just got tired of struggling and just breaking even. I want more for my girls and family. Since I've started working I've noticed I put my job first a lot. I stress about work when I'm at home and find myself relieved once I'm at work because I can focus on just that. Im head of warranty and I also help in other departments because I'm one of the only employees that's cross trained in parts, service and warranty. I started in parts and got promoted 4mo in. Unlike parts this position has the capability of becoming a real good paying career. I mean I make decent money. But once I have a couple years under my belt. My yearly could be anywhere from 65-85k base a year. That's without the bonus of anywhere from 600-2000 a month. I've been busting my butt for the last 4mo working 6 days a week and will even take calls on my personal time. I rather take that few min to help a customer then spend time with my family. It's a huge flaw but yet not a horrible one to have. I called a customer to make sure he got his estimate. He said he really needed it before thanksgiving and it was stuck on my mind all day. I sent the email but never got a confirm that he did in fact get it. When I called he was very greatful. At the same time told me that I need to not worry about work on my time off. And he's right. He's so right. I do this all the time. I will worry about how my customer is doing and will do my all to help them get coverd. I'll lose sleep thinking about a person i forgot to call back or something I wish I had more time to work on. I just have such a hard time disconnecting from work. I never thought my path would be doing warranty but I love it. I love it when I can get things coverd that normally wouldn't. I love that I'm able to put a smile on there face and they walk away happy and know I really went to bat for them. Just had one where a lady lost her home in the fires we had in cali. She then got a recall that could be a fire issue. Normally we have them bring the RV in. But with her living in it that wasn't as easy. I felt she had been though enough. So I got my manufacturer to cover a mobile teach and all the repairs. Something they almost never do. She was crying when I told her I got someone coming to her and all she had to do was pick a day. It's stuff like that, that make me love what I do. I even took her calls on my day off for questions she had. And yes I give out my cell. I know I shouldn't but I want them to have peace of mind and that I'll be there regardless if I'm off the clock. Also don't worry not breaking any rules it's my choice to give it out.... But what this customer said really stuck with me and I just didn't realize how bad I've gotten when it comes to worrying about work on my days/time off. Also I feel guilty because family should come first and sadly I've put them on the back burner. Just didn't see how much I really let work consume my life. My husband has made comments but I always blew them off. The more I look back I see how much I've pushed away from him. He just wants time with me and I give it all to work. By the time I get home Im either dog tired and want to be left alone or stressed about xy+z. So anyone have advice? Anyone work a stressful job that has tips on how to shut this part down. I don't want to become one of those parents that put there children second and work first. I know if I keep on this path that's exactly how I'll end up. My family is slowly becoming second and I don't want that. Yet I want to be good at what I do and give them a life better then what I had growing up. I grew up dirt poor and can't think of a time we did not struggle. Or needing clothes only to be told sorry not this year. Sorry this is so long but I really didn't realize how much I focus on work then my own family. I was a sahm for 7 years. My family is my world and slowly my world is no longer them but work. It breaking my heart. It's sad basically a stranger brought this to light when my husband has been saying this for some time now. I'm just more upset with myself and not listing to my dh of 12 years. A man who knows me better then myself some days. I love my job and I love my family but I need to really get my butt back to family first and work second.
