invite to parties do you provide food?

When you throw a party do you provide all the food? Or do you ask others to bring items like their own drinks, sides or main dish. I'm not talking pot lucks. I'm talking about birthdays, weddings and baby showers? Every time I've thrown a party I've always provided all the food. I just find it strange to ask others to bring food to a event you invited them too. The only thing we have asked others to bring is alcahol because I do not drink and my husband maybe once a year. But I provide plenty of options for Na drinks. So what do you think do you provide all the food? Or do you ask others to bring a side.....I'll comment more to the reason of this post.
