why was it so painful?

I had an extremely painful c-section but everyone I know says they didn't feel much during it, so now I'm confused why I had such a bad experience. I'm terrified to have a 2nd baby in case I need a repeat c-section. My delivery was supposed to be vaginal but I wasn't progressing and pitocin wasn't working so my dr said he doesn't think it will happen on its own. I had already been given the epidural so they just increased the dose. Besides an allergic reaction I had to an IV antibiotic they gave me, everything was fine up until the part they closed me up. The nurse said I'd feel a lot of pressure, almost as if my doctor was sitting on me and boy was she not kidding. I felt like my insides were being run over by a car. I could barely breathe and I thought I'd throw up. This lasted 20min as the dr kept tugging and pushing. The nurse put my baby by my head but I couldn't even focus on him due to pain. Would this have been different if I had a spinal block done?
