Potty Training?

How do I even begin to try and potty train my boy? He's my first and whereas I've helped with many nieces and nephews over the years, potty training was never something I was really involved in with them so I have no idea where to begin. We got him a baby potty in our bathroom and when my son follows us in there we tell him were going potty and he'll sit on his but with his diaper on..any advice on where to go from there?
