Midwife or doctor?
Is anyone seeing a midwife? I am going to call a new doctors office today and they have an OB and a midwife. I've heard good things about both, but everyone seems to LOVE the midwife. This is my third pregnancy and my other two kids were born in Germany, where it's standard for midwives to deliver the baby (same midwife delivered them both and I loved her to pieces) but I still went to a regular OBgyn for all my checkups. I was told if I see the midwife and there are things that she can't do, the doctor would see the patients also. What are your thoughts on midwives and doctors?

I'll have an obgyn. I'm not against a midwife, in fact I checked one out before I miscarried my last pregnancy. But I can't afford to pay her completely out of pocket. And I have issues staying pregnant and will most likely be considered high risk.

My office has both. We rotate through them all so that you are familiar with whoever is on call when you go into labor. I actually a Midwife deliver my first and she was great!

I've only seen midwives while having babies but saw OBGYN's for well woman care prior to that and during my first miscarriage. Midwives have a different standard of care. Some can be more OB-minded but in general the care will be more thorough and personal and they are trained to view pregnancy as a natural event in a woman's life. OB's are surgeons who see everyone. Midwives see women who are low risk but I think anyone can benefit from dual care with a midwife and OB. Midwives tend to have lower rates of medical and surgical intervention as well.

At my doctors office we have both. With my last pregnancy I seen them both. With this pregnancy I will be seeing the both of them again. I love them both for different reasons.

I scheduled my first appointment with the midwife. Everyone says she's awesome. But there is also a OB in the same office, so she can help or take over if needed.

I have used the same midwife for all of pregnancies. I had an ob for my first pregnancy for the first 20 weeks and switches... O couldn't have made a better decision

I'll be using the same midwife and delivering at home just as I did last time. :)
