my toddler had stichies

My son in 3 years old we live in cali and we just bought me a suburban so we decide to take a family trip to the snow. It. Was my 3 year old sons first time to the snow.. Well it was a horriable day my son was takin down in a slead with his uncle who is 13 and they went straight into a tree my sons face was ripped open and his check was cut a 1 inch deep hole across his check he started screaming it was the most scariest thing my husband ran down so fast and there was a ton of blood. We ran to the car and drove to the closet er and had to wait 3 hours to get his mouth stichied they put him out and my poor baby got 30 stichies from his lip to check bone. He is doing great but it was just horrible im so sad my sons face will have a huge scar across his face ive been doing alot of research about taking care of scars but i still feel like there more to know anyone had to have stichies what was ur best cream to apply for it. I have a appt with a plastic surgen to make sure the doctor did it right and with min scars i felt like the worst mom ever cause i was caring my 2 month old in a carrier and couldnt run to his resuce.it broke my heart and gave me a anxeity attack seeing him hurt like that..im thankful that it didnt rip threw his check or take out a eye. But i just cant forgive myself for not going down on the slead with him and not his uncle.
