We have a young girl who cleans our house every 2 weeks. . She's 30 years old, living off public assistance ( I know this because its often the topic of conversations ) has 3 kids and overall appears to be a great mom doing the best she can. My husband is a very hard worker, with a wonderful job and we are fortunate to have all we need and more. A few months ago she was telling me her washer broke and kiddies are running out of clothing. I told her next time she comes, she could wash the clothing, but proceeds to bring more and more each week ( ok I offered so I can't complain ) but she told me she got a new washer weeks ago.. One day I had 4 or 5 bags in the garage of clothing we were donating to goodwill, while I wasn't home she went through the bags and picked items out for herself/boyfriend and kids --ok-- I was fine with that and happy I was able to help her, just wished she asked before doing it. Recently I brought out bins of clothing from my first son that were in storage to start going through for this little guy; when i returned home that day she said " I hope you aren't donating all that clothing, I could use both bins of 18 to 24 month stuff". My face turned bring red and I explained that I needed to weed through and find out what we will be keeping for baby 2 but would be more than happy to give her what we wouldn't be using. So each week she questions me on what she can take and this week I had a small bag for her of stuff that I could have kept but donated to try to help. We have a sectional couch in the basement that we purchased 2 years ago, custom order from pottery barn that we will be using once our basement is finished. She asked if she could have it ??? Because hers is covered in cat pee. I explained that we will be using it for our basement and she started crying, which she has done on numerous occasions--Idk why she was even in the basement to begin with??? Lastly, I forgot to leave a tip for her last week, as I was out of town; so she did a terrible job cleaning and called to say she would stop by the following day for the tip as she "really needs it for gas". I was speechless and gave her the money the next day. I really feel as though I am being taken advantage of ( many other scenarios i didn't even mention ) but feel terrible she is in a tough situation. What would you do ???
