Gender Scan Confusion ???

I am so completely confused lol. How are so many of you ladies going to get gender scans (not through blood work) at 13, 14, 15 weeks ?? I live in New York and am pregnant with our second child and my OB won't schedule a scan until AT LEAST 20 weeks. I go back next Friday and I will be 16 +2 and my Dr said 16 "is too early". Just curious if you are going to private facilities ?? Or will your Dr risk a wrong read that early ?? Thanks ladies.
