Blighted ovum

Looks like a blighted ovum. I started spotting the night of Thanksgiving, and haven't stopped. Went in for an US today and saw an empty gestational sac at 7 weeks 3 days. OB is trying to be positive and saying that it might be too early and my dates are off, but I know they arent. What should I expect. I'm not cramping at all. Will I need a D and C, even if there's not actually a baby to pass?
