potty training help
My 2 year old is on 5 days with potty training. He's only had 2 accidents since we started and that was day 2. We don't leave the house so him being bottomless is no issue. But we have to leave on Monday for his pre op so by then he needs to be trained with clothes on.
It is hereditary, I wet the bed till I was almost 12. I hated it and never stayed the night anywhere
I was night trained for a year or two I think before I started wetting at night. I wonder if I was doing it for a subconscious reason? But it didn't happen every night, but still frequently.
I stopped after I moved. We moved from OR to CA and shortly after I had my first sleepover and my mom said she talked to the other mom and let her know.. But my mom said since that sleepover I just stopped. But I was 10. I think at that age I didn't want to embarrass myself?
It got to the point though that when I wet, I would get up and strip my bed myself and grab new blankets. My mom used to do it but around 7-8 I just did it myself.
Still don't really know why I did for so long.. But my dad wet until like 12 I think. Is it hereditary?
Yeah we tried a few months ago and stopped after day 2 when it was practically all accidents.
This time it seems like it's going better.. And he gets it, I just think he doesn't care. He has to care for this to work right? Lol
He also usually poops like 3 times a day and he didn't poop all day yesterday or yet today, it's noon. Sooo I guess he can hold it? Lol.
I want to keep going because I feel like giving up now is a little premature.. I just hope he starts telling us more that he has to go. It's crazy because my 2yr old talks like a 3yr old and is constantly telling us how he feels, what he sees and thinks so I'm really surprised he isn't shouting about peeing and pooping!
Coley can you ask him to let you know if he goes in his underwear? Tell him it's ok you just want to get him clean clothes if it happens.
We half attempted a few months ago and had several accidents so I just decided to wait a while, but I'm pretty lazy when it comes to potty training and don't mind waiting haha
That's sounds like it's going good.
Since we started he's been waking up dry and last night I didn't put a diaper on him and he was fine without it.
When he had an accident I just said "oops! Let's get you some clean clothes"
He's been going to school in undies all week and had a couple accidents there, understandably. He even woke up to pee in the middle of the night and was upset he had peed in the diaper (which was under a pair of undies he refused to sleep without lol) so he may night time train too. That really surprised me as my 5yo still wets at night! I'm starting to worry how she will feel if he does :(
We r doing great. No accidents at all but he did go once and wasn't sitting right and peed right out of the potty.
When he did have an accident I would clean it and just let him know where he supposed to go and that's it.
How's it going for everyone? I think we're making some progress after two days.
When there are accidents, how do you guys deal with it?! What do you say to your kid? Julian kinda doesn't seem to care that he peed on himself and a couple times I didn't even know he peed until I touched his undies. So he's peeing and not even saying anything about it?
If he doesn't really care.. Maybe he's not ready?
But then the other half of the day he would go to the potty by himself and was really excited about it.
Any advice?
We're potty training too!!
Julian pooped in his underwear this morning, so then we said forgot undies and have been bottomless since. I think it is too much like a diaper. He's doing ok, and I like the loose pants idea!
We just did nap time with undies and he woke up dry, so that's good!
Good luck to everyone! Lol
We have those pee pads already. But the problem is he sleeps with us so I don't want to get peed on haha.
Milly- the third night my son wore underwear he said no to a diaper at bedtime. I just put a towel under him. He woke up the next morning and his bed was dry. Don't be afraid to try it! You can also buy those puppy training pads (they look like what they put under you when you give birth) and stick it under his sheet. It'll soak up any accidents before they get to the mattress.
Ds started having an accident here and there at night so we take him to the toilet now. We wait 3-4 hrs after he goes to bed and he doesn't even really wake up, just pees when we set him on the potty and stays sleeping.
Good luck
My son hates when we do a diaper at night. He wakes up dry every morning but I'm scared to try without one
Wow! We had one super successful potty day two weeks ago, even a poop on the potty. The next day she cried til I put a diaper on her.
Then 2 nights ago she screamed crazy when I went to put her nighttime diaper on. All day yesterday she refused a diaper, wanted undies but didn't want to go potty. She didn't pee for 9 hours (an accident on her bed). Back in undies today, wish we more luck!
So gotta share a funny story
Right after my last comment my son pulled his pants down and walked to his potty which was on the other side of the living room. He didn't wait till he got to his potty to pull them down. So we was wobbly almost falling trying to get to the potty. But he made it and didn't pee on the floor. And got up and pulled his pants back up.
Regular toilet or even his potty in there.
I'll try the scooting thing.
I like the cat training thing that was funny.
He's got pants on now and I told him to take them off when he needs to use that bathroom and he looked at me weird. So I'm hoping this doesn't mess him up. I don't mind him being naked but my husband doesn't like it.
Or do you mean the regular toilet? I haven't gotten my son there yet he prefers the floor potty for now. When he's ready I have a little stool and the toilet seats that come with an extra child size ring you flip down. My daughter went to that after a couple weeks on the floor potty if I remember
I just moved it there after a day and when he said "I need to pee" I said it's in the bathroom and walked there with him.
Since your son isn't verbilizing his need though maybe just scoot it 10 feet closer to the bathroom each time he goes? I did that litter training kittens lol, sorry ;)
I'll try loose pants and see how that goes.
And his was all of a sudden as well.
And another thing is, he uses the potty chair which I keep the the living room, how do I get him to use the regular bathroom
My son just learned in the last week, out of nowhere almost he wanted to go on the potty.
We started bottomless, then put him in loose pj bottoms easy to get down/up, then added underwear.
He wanted underwear on the first day but immediately had an accident in them (and then was upset he peed on poor Thoms the train lol). I think the underwear felt too much like a diaper so we did the pj thing, he never had an accident after that at home.
I wet the bed until I was like 12. Definitely not intentionally. The book Dry All Night by Alison Mack is what helped me most. Increasing fluid intake during the day and then decreasing it a couple hours before bed couldn't hurt either. Panties vs. pull-ups has nothing to do with whether or not a child wets, I remember reading. The former just gives you more work if they do wet. Good luck, all!
