My 2 year old has been starting to act up more lately. He has been throwing stuff at the twins and hitting them. I have no idea why he's doing this, he doesn't see any hitting or throwing. He knows what he's doing wrong because he cries after he does it but then when we tell my husband what he does he thinks it's funny and isn't sad anymore. I don't know how to react to that. I just tell him it's not nice and u hurt them and make him sit down for a bit.

What about offering something else to hit?

I don't think hitting always is even connected to a negative emotion. My daughter will often bite when she gets excited. What's worked for us is saying you can't bite people but you can bite your shirt (this has worked best because she's almost always wearing a shirt so she doesn't have go anywhere/get anything)
Sometimes if I see her getting agitated I'll have a planned fit where we both go in her room and yell into pillows and kick the mattress and roll around crazy and it helps her release her energy in an acceptable way. Maybe worth a try?

How I handle it is I grab my toddler and say I can't let you hurt the baby. I'm going to help
You both stay safe. I bear hug her until she's somewhat calm. Then I say let's find something fun for you to do. I don't even talk about the hitting. Later on, randomly I say things like we can't hit. When we are frustrated, here are things we can do. It's most likely going to get worse when the babies start moving and grabbing so it's good to think how you are going to handle it. I read that you shouldn't say too much bc they aren't listening in the moment anyway. I try to find the reason my toddler is freaking out and give her a solution. Sometimes there problems are just "so big" they don't even know what to do with themselves.
