Toilet training
What age did you start? Did you start because your child showed signs or did you just want to give it a shot?
Scooter, I was that on fb, what a clever boy! Hopefully he keeps it up ?
We started when we were close to our 2nd bubs due date so he was roughly 20 months.
He showed no signs I just was of the school of thought that it would make my life easier so we have it a shot. It took a day for him to get it and 3 days to be accident free during awake times. He wore a nappy for naps and bed time for a while but he's been completely nappy free since 2.5
This is very early though and he's a very intelligent little boy who's done everything really early. My ds2 is 2y5m and refuses. They're all soo different ?
Thanks for sharing your experience with your girls ?
I might give it a go when the weather warms up and see how she goes, she may surprise me ?
Dd1 is an October baby so i thought I'd give it a shot a few weeks before her 2nd bday as the weather was warming up. 2 weekends worth and she hadn't grasped any part of it, so I thought no probs we'll just wait. Tried again at christmas as i had around 2weeks leave from work so seemed like a good time to give it a good go. She picked it up quick. Day trained mostly in a few weeks. And night trained by her 3rd birthday.
Now dd2 is a march baby. So decided to start trying when the weather warmed up after her second birthday (so over 2yrs and 6mths), she also showed some signs from watchinh big sister so even through winter sat on the potty but did nothing. She had the talk "here it comes" " here comes stinky poos" " here comes my wees" you get the idea. So again i had around 2 weeks off at christmas so again wr gave it a really good go and still nothing on the potty expect alot of talk about what should happen. Finally after lots of play in just undies outside she did her first wee on te potty at like 2yrs 10mths (nearly 11mths)... and then on the night of her 3rd birthday decided she was done with night nappies and has had very few accidents overnight!
So my moral is, training at 2 or training later, they are all so different and will get it when they are ready.
They other thing with dd2 is she wasn't as coordinated or in a rush to do things as dd1 was at the same age so i didn't feel any rush with her.
I think I'll just wait until she shows me she's ready since she hasn't yet so I don't want to push her into it.
I might starting putting her on the toilet before her bath because she always pees when I run the water lol, just to see how she reacts.
Thanks girls ?
I've tried putting Tate on the toilet.. He did a wee on there a while ago but won't go now!! He will sit on there but not wee. When I worked in childcare we used to suggest sitting on the toilet at nappy change time. A lot of parents just started because they wanted to.. Not because there were signs so I think good job to you seeking advice on the signs.
What made you start though? Did she show any signs that she is ready or did you just want to see how you went?
I've just started with my 2 year old. She turned 2 in April. I'm day 4 So pretty much I have the ducted air con on all day when at home so the house is warm enough for her to be in undies and a tshirt. She will say wee wee or poopy. But in morning we go straight to toilet and sit for 15 minutes or until we pee. Then every 10-20 min I aske her If she has wees. She will say yes or no mummy. When I pee I take her with me to show her. After any meal/ drink 10 minutes I take her to the toilet. So far 2 days no accidents. But during nap time and bed time I put a nappy on.
Lots of praise when she does something on the toilet ( we ring daddy at work to tell him lol)
If she has an accident, I stay claim and explain to her what the toilet is for, and I put her on again.
I won't hold my breath!' ? but will keep trying lol. Would be awesome if he is trained before baby arrives. Although that's screaming out to go backwards with it too.
