Sounds like he needs to be more supportive and understanding. If your on bed rest, he should be close by in case something bad happens. How old is he? There’s no reason for a grown man who has a family to be out that late. I would be furious if it were me.

No definitely not okay, he should be home helping you at this very fragile time. It’s time to step up and for him to take his roll as a man and to help his family.

Mine does the same. It's very frustrating we've finally worked out that he won't leave until the kids have been put to bed. He can stay out as late as he likes as long as he gets up with all of us in the morning. I've come to understand needs to blow off steam at the end of the work week and I get that. I appreciate his compromising to be here when the kids are up and help me with that. Maybe talk to your so about doing that?
