@buntaine that is so hard. I'm so sorry you have to deal with this on top of how hard being pregnant is in general. Hoping the best for you and baby. And just remember that you're not alone in the mental health battle during pregnancy. There are plenty of us to talk to when things get hard. ❤

@kjcross, lithium can cause heart disease or can cause the heart not to form in a fetus. Is also can cause other issues later in the pregnancy for mother and baby. If lithium levels in blood are too high it can become toxic to my body and can be fatal. I tried lamotragine (however you spell it) which is pregnancy safe but my moods were awful and if I’m without my lithium I’m like a whole new person 😞 it sucks! I don’t want to harm my baby but I also don’t want to harm myself by not taking my medicine

@kendrab, I used to smoke weed a couple years ago and I would qualify for medical marijuana but my fiancé is VERY against any drugs in general 😕

I don't know if it could be effective for you, but Wellbutrin and Buspar have probably literally saved my life during this pregnancy. The Dr says it's the safest antidepressant to take during pregnancy and it completely dissolved the manic depression I was having. I would go into these fits of rage and major pits of depression where I absolutely could not stop sobbing. It was scary. I was scary. I was violent. I felt possessed. I had a history of moderate depression during pms mostly before, but it was the pregnancy hormones that put me in full blown insanity.
You need to do what's best for you so you can do your best for the baby, but how dangerous is Lithium? Is it worth the risk or would it be better to give something less dangerous and maybe a bit less effective a shot?

@buntaine if your bipolar effects you alot and you are in a legal state i would think of using bud, not many studies done with it but you dont have to get high or smoke it for it to work, and im sure regardless it would be a safer alternative than the medications they give :/ trust me i debated going on medications a bunch and talked to my doctor about it and was flat out told if i want the least amount of side effects on my body i was better sticking with it by the 2 doctors i went to, if your in a legal state id look into that.. but i dont really have any advice on leaning off your meds and being clean like i am, everyday is a struggle with me:/ i wish i had something:/ my states not legal so i cant be prescribed things and id be thrilled, i dont do it for the high at all, i used it for the bipolar and even one hit a day really helped, i was never proud of smoking it and would rather use other alternatives of it than smoking cause i personally dont like the high i dont like anything that doesnt make me feel normal :/ i get panicky. Youre not alone sweetheart but i hope you find something safer that doesnt make you struggle everyday because god is it tough!!!!

Im bipolar, diagnosed in 5th grade now im 22, my mum didnt allow me to take medications as they are all so very unhealthy and as an adult ive decided not to (i did use to smoke bud though) although i havnt smoked since i found out i was pregnant, very hard the first couple weeks after you've been dependent on something to calm you, you arent a bad mother! Its hard! If you can find or afford therapy it will help you so much! Other than that maybe walks or cleaning something to keep you going, but if you get real frustrated take a break even if its days break! Therapy and i have sponges to throw or squeeze and going gets really tough! And those sponges are like miracles cause im not breaking anything or hurtinf anyone just throwing a bucket of sponges lmao! Sounds crazy but my bipolar is so bad and its been a struggle to deal with since i can remember! Best of luck to you♡

@buntaine yeah I get it. But you aren't a bad mom. Have you tried talking to your dr?

@soon2bemama, yeah I’m fine. I just feel really alone in the whole situation. With my first son I didn’t know I was bipolar. I got diagnosed like 2-3 months ago and I am not on lithium which is a very dangerous drug for mom and baby. I tried to get off of it but I can’t. I am just afraid I’ll hurt myself or my baby. Makes me feel like a bad mom you know?

I'm not a mother yet but I do. Unfortunately I can't give you much advice or anything cause I don't do much to help it.. there seems to be nothing that can help other then I need to try to be aware 24/7. I can't imagine how it's gonna be when I have a baby and/or a toddler. Are u okay?
