This is serious folks. We are building a house, moving in a few weeks and we had Comcast come out and do a site survey to install coax for cable/internet. They called me back and said it will cost me $30K!! Yes, you read that right, $30K! I work from home, my husband works from home. This is our livelihood! I called Comcast 6 months ago before we ever even signed on the house build and they told me it wouldn't be a problem since a neighbor has it. It turns out that "neighbor" is almost a mile away and they would have to run nearly 5,000 feet of cable! I don't know what to do! We have to have high speed Internet to work. We can't have satellite/broadband.

Wait! Don't panic. My family lives out in the absolute boonies, and I know they do something clever and ingenious and pay like, $25 a month.
I probably won't get them on the phone tonight, but I will update here tomorrow or pm you.

I asked dh, he's done for cable installation /repair for over 10 years. He says it would have to be hard lined do its entirely possible you will have a huge install fee- when you called the person talking to you just checked your immediate area. You can look up coax cable loss to see how much the signal decreases the farther you get from the tap.

Are you going through a builder like DR Horton or Style Homes?? Or did you contract your own builder??
If you have the former option they may have a contract w Comcast or whomever to handle the cable.

Otherwise maybe look into fiber optic lines for your cable service. I think I had Hotwire in our last house.

Satellite is too slow for us both to work. The fastest speeds we can find is 10mbps.
We contracted our own builder. I'm not sure he has any contacts but I'll call him tomorrow crying and beg for his help.

How is cell service out there? Is a mobile hot spot an option?
Or how about this? Could work if you aren't a heavy user, streaming videos and such.
