I'm heading to Germany today. I had ordered euro from the bank and when i went to pick it up, they said they never got my order. ? That was Friday which was too late to order anymore. I called tons of local banks and no one had any.

If u take ur own money they should have exchange shops and you can do it from there

Awesome! I ended up leaving some with my husband and will just withdraw from the atm. My bank only charges a 1% fee so that's my best bet. I do have quite a bit of cash still. My husband was adamant I take it just in case of emergency but if I was able to get money out of the ATM, he said I can just bring back the cash. I'll put it in the safe when i get to the hotel so I'm not carrying it around.
We pay our sitters in cash so it's not like we can't use it when I get back to pay them each week.

You can definitely use an atm there like kvon said, I've done so several times. Just make sure your bank is aware so your card doesn't get flagged as stolen and cut off!

I called them and notified them I was leaving the country so they wouldn't flag my cards.
Anything is better than ICE. Currency exchange rate right now is .91 € to $1. So $700 USD's equates to 636€.
ICE was going to charge me $875 for 636€!! That's $175 in fees!

Yup you can take money out of the atm. In the UK at least the ATMs are free to use, the American bank is the one that will charge you. You can see the exchange rate before you commit to the transaction. You may have a bit of trouble using your cards at some places because us technology is so far behind. I'm an American in Europe and have issues with my American cards all the time.

Thanks! We are actually traveling to London on Saturday and staying through Tuesday so that information will definitely come in handy!

Yes you can go to a bank and exchange there. Also see if they have an American Express branch they used to give better rates when I was living and traveling in Europe. Like the previous poster you can also withdraw with your Atm card just beware of withdrawal fees.

If you are offered by the atm to take out money in usd don't do it. The exchange rate they offer is terrible. Take the money out in euros. They will work out the exchange rate at a better time saving you money.
