Anemic DD
I took DD for her 1 year well check today and she's anemic and she's lost weight. The doctor asked me if I had considered stopping breast feeding. She is worried she isn't getting enough calories given the fact that I'm pregnant and it may have caused DD to lose weight. The thing is, yes - I have noticed my supply going down and she has cut 1-2 feedings out during the day, but she eats SO much other food. 3 meals a day plus fruit and veggie snacks during the day. I really don't want to stop, she just turned one!

If she eats three meals a day I don't see why you should stop nursing!

Give her iron rich veggies take a good prenatal that has plenty of iron and add more iron rich veggies to your diet and protein I wouldn't quit. I'm 19 weeks with number 2 and still nursing my 13 month old. Spinach is great for iron I have a list I'll pull up

Dried apricot, lentils, broccoli, spinach, nuts, fortified oatmeal, figs, kidney beans there's a ton of options and those are easy for toddlers to absorb the iron

I would continue nursing. With one of my sons I gave him the supplement and snuck in iron and ground beef/roast beef. Also my pediatrician told me to not take the iron supplement with dairy as it hinders absorption I think. I would serve him a light meal with the vitamin also like a yogurt with granola just in case it upset his tummy. It helped him quite a bit. Also will your daughter eat avocado? I used to give him half of one with either a baked egg in it or cottage cheese with sunflower kernels for weight gain. Helped us.
The yogurt he was eating was a coconut milk based one and non dairy :)

Thank you, ladies! I'm definitely not going to stop. I just want to ensure I am eating right for myself, my LO, and my little bean. It's a lot to be responsible for, LOL!

Beans

Does she drink cows milk? It can interfere with iron absorption so if she does I would limit her intake.
When P's levels were low & she was still barely eating solids (she had swallowing issues even at 9+ months) we started giving her steak to suck/gum on. Next check she was fine. Lol

She doesn't drink milk, only breast milk and a little water with meals. She eats everything, steak, chicken, veggies - I can just focus on filling the fridge with iron-filled groceries. I have her the supplement and it smelled SO bad. It hasn't seems to upset her tummy though, I'll keep an eye out for it.

Be careful with beans as it can make you more anemic. Can you have her scanned for g6pd?
I have that in addition to occasional bouts of anemia. Beans exacerbates anemic symptoms; lethargic, cold feet and fingers, pale looking skin and sinus-like symptoms.
My mother added liver to my diet , I had more red meats and eggs. I now add dark leafy vegetables, I prefer them raw.
If your lo doesn't like any of the foods mentioned, slip them via a smoothie.
Eta: keep nursing.

Spinach, artichoke and steak are really high in iron.
