If you're not high risk, you should be able to tandem nurse the whole time. I tandem nursed through my entire pregnancy with no issues.

I was also advised to stop but I'm still nursing. I'm currently 40 weeks pregnant and she's 16 months. I've tried weaning but she's not ready so I will try to tandem nurse. I haven't experienced any pre term contractions or anything like that but I'm also not high risk. The one thing some moms develop while nursing and pregnant is "nursing aversion". I get it at times and it's really bad but I try to stick through it for my toddler. I dried up before the second trimester but she still comfort nurses.

I nursed through my last pregnancy with no problems, but I did not have any history of preterm labor. When I asked my doctor about it, he acted like it was silly to think nursing could cause labor. I did have strong contractions every time I nursed my son after about 25 weeks, but only while nursing. As soon as he was finished each time, they would stop. Maybe you can continue until you notice it causing contractions?

I am not high risk right now but I was with my previous 3 pregnancies. Not because of preterm labor, but because of IUGR and I had pre-eclampsia with my last. I guess I will just wait it out and see.

I never stopped nursing my daughter. Dr said it wasn't an issue. I did have contractions but always stopped when she was done nursing.
