Possible trigger warning

Possible trigger warning

Today I got a call from my sons guidance counselor. She asked me to come in as there was an issue at school and she didn't want to discuss it over the phone. She assured me DS wasn't in trouble but it was very urgent I come in. I never expected to hear what I did when I got there.

Yes! Have him talk to a professional! There is no downside to having him talk to someone.

I come from a family where depression and suicide is common and we don't take signs like this lightly. There is SOMETHING going on to make him mention that, even if he has no intention to harm himself.

I would have him talk to someone. Even if you don't think that he would actually harm himself, an 8 year old wouldn't normally utter those words.

That's a huge load to bare at that age. Those words are very grown up and the deeper meaning could have been misinterpreted by him.

I think you should take him to a specialist.

Poor baby. Keeping that in for so long. Good luck.

I would rather be safe then sorry and have him talk to someone. I know as a kid sometimes I felt like I had nowhere to turn and I did some stupid stuff. Sometimes talking to your parents isn't the easiest, no matter how easy they make it!

I hope everything gets better for you!

I agree with taking him to talk to someone. Kids are so cruel.

I would definitely have him go talk to someone, a family friend her 10 year old son committed suicide due to bullying and not getting him the proper help

Poor baby :*(

You aren't a bad mother. I can tell by this post. What a horrible situation to be in though. I imagine that talking to someone can only help.

What does the school plan to do about the boys and the bullying because he didn't randomly start feeling like this? Poor baby.

Yes have him talk to someone, also did they talk to the other kids? If this continues can you send him to a different school by chance?

This breaks my heart and makes me so angry. I am so sorry that you are going through this. You are not a bad mom because you are taking action. And I am so sorry your son is going through that as well. I think it would be good to have him see someone. And I hope those kids are dealt with because who knows if it's just your son they are bullying. Do you know whatbis being done at school to resolve the issue?

The kids that are bullying your son are in desperate need of help too. And I pray to God their parents don't let it slide because they can be send to another school and that doesn't solve their issue.

No advice because my son is only three but I couldn't imagine going through this. That's so heartbreaking to hear, whether he meant it or not! Thank goodness the message was relayed to you by the school or you would've never known. Best wishes to you. I'm sure you're an amazing mother and he loves you more than anything.

Well first off, punch those little a****** s in the throat.

After you make bail and everything maybe you can have a sit down with their parents and make sure they know what their children are doing and how it's affecting your poor son. I wouldn't want it to backfire though when it's just the kids at school ?

That's terrible! Your poor son. You're a great mom and one can prevent these kind of situations. I'm not one to recommend counseling, but if you think it can help him more than you can, go for it:)

Thank you all for your kind words. I've been crying all afternoon, evening and night and I really appreciate the advice. I will reach out to some friends tomorrow and find the best provider I can. One of my friends is a child psychiatrist, I may be able to ask her for help as well.

The counselor and the principle met with the other boys and their parents. Tomorrow is the last day of school so I'm not sure how this will be handled exactly. We are also planning to move this summer, so if all goes well, we won't be back next year. However, I want to ensure he is equipped with the skills to deal with something like this at the new school we go to, if it were to happen again.

Reading this broke my heart?. In sorry OP, I really hope things get better for him, and I how that if it ever does happen again he tells you before things get bad. I have one almost that age and I can't imagine if some one were to make him feel like his life was so miserable he would want to end it.?kids are suppose to be happy!

I am almost i tears for you! Yes have him talk to someone who can help him cope with the negative feelings in positive ways.

Talk to him and maybe try to find outlets he can use like art, music, sports.

Also make sure something is done about the bullying!

He has been telling me about the issues with the "main" boy for a few months, but never made it sound serious. Just your typical kid stuff.

He moved to our street last summer and they met on the bus stop the first day of school and it turned out they were in the same class. They were friends at first but after a few months, DS said he didn't like playing with him because he always wanted to do things my DS knows isn't allowed. Like going down to the creek without adult supervision, and he would even tell DS not to tell us, which he always did. I guess that's when the boy and him started to not get along.

He would tell me little things like ""Boy" cut in front of me in line today" or ""Boy" said he was a faster reader than me because I'm on the 4th Harry potter book and he's on the 5th". I just told him to ignore him and play with his other friends. I chaperoned their field trip in April and the boy was in my group. He was so frustrating. One of those kids that likes to get under your skin for no reason and just push your buttons. Anything he could do to get a rise out of you, he would do. Then the boy moved away from our street 3-4 weeks ago and things got a lot better, until this week I guess.

Also, he said a 5th grader said he was stupid this morning on the bus stop. He said that really hurt his feelings, so when the other boys started picking on him in class, he got really upset.

Is there another school he can attend away from these bullies where he can get a fresh start?

After reading your post, this hits home for me. My son who was 8 at the time was bullied to the point that he felt his life was worthless and wasn't worth living.

I can agree with you hearing that your child doesn't want to live just to ease the pain of being bullied is one of the worst things you could hear as a mom.

As someone who can relate and been through what this type of situation. My advise to you would be :

1) Hold the school and the teachers accountable. As they are an extension of you when you are not present. Talk to the principal make them get the other parents who are responsible for those children who bullied your son involved DO NOT LET THEM OFF THE HOOK, this is a very serious matter. Make them give you an action plan on how they plan on keeping your son safe from this point on. Stay on them about this!!!

2) seek out psychiatric help, my son sees a psychiatrist and a therapist once a week because he had an action plan to carry out the deed.

Why you may ask, there are things that our children may not want to tell us parents because they feel that they someone how will upset us with the information or that we may not fully understand the situation. So please don't feel like a bad parent because my son and i have a very close relationship and he kept this bottled inside.

3) Seek out family counseling sessions because this takes a toll on the whole family not just your son.

4) Look for programs that specializes in how to manage suicide, bullying, coping in general with stressful situations.

Depending on where you are from, I am in Chicago and I had the best help with the care of my son @ Laurie' children hospital where they had a inpatient facility where they teach coping skills and various other things pertaining to negative thoughts. My son stayed for 2 weeks and this is where we jumped started our daily family sessions (which went down to weekly after program).

After this inpatient my son out through the out patient part of the program for another two weeks where they instilled the same values and coping skills while trying to integrate back into school part time with the action plan formulated by the school and myself. After finishing the month long program we had weekly sessions with the therapist, psychiatrist, group therapy to learn how to apply those skills with kids his age, and personal family sessions.

5)Also I would recommend I putting your son in karate and/ or boxing, not to kick the kids asses who mess with him, but to build that confidence to know he is strong and worth everything in this world and more.

I did for my son and no he has not used it for fighting he still is the sweet loving humorous kid that he was before the bullying but only stronger and confident.

Also Don't be afraid of the labels people try to give if you seek out the help. Especially mental health because suicide talk is a very serious matter and don't not take it lightly.

Sometimes we get so sad we feel that way and I mean in the moment it was an honest thought.

I'd definitely take steps though because he needs support if he's feeling sad enough to voice that even just once

I have no advice, your not a bad mom at all. I bullied and never really had alot of friends, I was bullied from 6th grade to sinior year of high school. I never told my parents until I was in 11th grade because I really didn't want to go to school anymore.

I never told them because saying it out loud made me feel even weaker and more of a loser. Even tho my mom was my best friend growing up. I would always tell my parents stories of my "friends" who where only classmates who where nice to me for the day. I was always happy at home. I never wanted my parents to worry about me and it was kid stuff. So it has nothing to do with you.

Also, I would be punching some 8 year olds.

Its not your fault. Kids are cruel and for some reason some kids pay more attention to how other kids feel about them than their own family . I would say keep a close eye on him .. Praying for your family :*

I am so sorry!

I had this very same thing happen this year with my 8 year old son. He was being bullied and I had no idea..he told a friend he wanted to Jump off the roof so he wouldn't have to go to school. That friend reported it to the teacher and we had a very similar conversation . We are going to get him in counseling. I had zero clue this was going on. I talk to my son all the time and have special time with him and he never mentioned any of it. My heart broke into a million pieces as well. Please pm me... I'd love to compare progress etc.
