Two Virginia parents have been arrested after police said their 9-month-old baby girl died after being left alone in a crib for 16 hours.

Police said Friday that they responded to a Nokesville home on Oct. 5 after receiving a report of an unresponsive infant. Officers and an emergency medical team arrived at the home and found a 9-month-old baby girl unresponsive and not breathing in a crib.

The baby was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said it appears the girl's parents - Adam and Jasmyne Alexander, both 21 years old - had left the baby alone in the crib for at least 16 hours, from roughly 8:30 the night before until around 12:30 that afternoon, when she was found unresponsive.

Police said they also learned that the baby had not been to any routine doctor visits in more than seven months.

An investigation also revealed that the parents had discovered the child had a breathing problem weeks before, but had not sought medical care for the problem, police said.

The Alexanders were arrested on Oct. 9; they were each charged with felony child neglect.

A GoFundMe page created by Jasmyne Alexander refers to her as baby girl "Avarice" and claims the baby died of SIDS, or Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. As of Friday afternoon, more than $4,500 in donations had been received. Alexander said the money was to give Avarice a "proper burial" and any money left over would be donated to SIDS research".

What the hell is going on with all these babies being murdered/ neglected? Sad very sad world we live in.

People neglect their children because religion or people in their lives tell them not to abort or put baby up for adoption. Is it really that difficult to figure out???

I have no idea! I mean, it's a pretty well to do area so I'm not really sure. There are so many programs available around here.

I seriously cant leave my baby girl asleep without checking her every 3-4 hours, how can they be so cruel!

I have nightmares about forgetting about the baby and wake up in a panic crying like OMG it's hungry and I have to change the diaper!!! Then I realize I'm still pregnant. This is literally my nightmares :(
