Disapproval of baby names

This is why we keep the name a secret.

I was rattling off names during the holidays when I was pregnant with my son, the name he has now was hated by a few close family members but I didn't care because I love it. Now they just have to deal & although they still don't necessarily like it, any other name wouldn't suit him. His name is Maverick, by the way. ? also, I KNOW that if this next baby is a girl, my best friend also doesn't like the name we have picked out. ?

They don't insult the name after the baby is born ?

My oldest son is named Emmitt. My father in law threw a fit when I said we were thinking of Emmitt as a name which kind you is a family name on my side. I literally left the gathering crying about it. I ended up naming him that anyway and now he loves it. People are stupid. Which is why we no longer discuss names or even possibilities with anyone until after the kids are born. No one will say anything about the name you pick when it’s already on the birth certificate!

We told my husband family on Christmas what our two names were for a boy and girl.. they liked the boy name Camden but his mother and grandmother said oh I don’t like Charleigh as a girls name it sounds boyish or I just don’t like it.. I said well that’s what WE LIKE and if or when you two decide to have another baby you can name it whatever you like! That ended the convo right there.

Most people dont like my two boys names (Emmett 4 and Theo 1) you can see it in their face when they ask, "Oh" is all they'll say. But in the end it doesnt matter because we love their names! Also I pick names specifically because theyre not that popular.

Ya if I have a girl, I plan on not telling anyone the name because every name I suggest, it gets turned down by my mom. Last time I was pregnant , my mom and grandma made me cry BAD when I suggested a name for my daughter. They started saying how ugly it was and they laughed and it just made me feel like they were bullying my unborn baby.

We don’t tell anyone any of the names we’re considering! Like a pp said - no one (or almost no one) will say rude things about a name when they’re holding your adorable perfect newborn in their arms ?

I never have included family or friends in our baby naming process. It’s only ever been between hubby and I. If anyone asks we always tell them “we haven’t thought of names yet”. We don’t want input because inevitably there is always that ONE person who despises whatever name you choose ?. With all of our kids we have always first found out the gender, and then decided on a name, and then officially announced the gender/name to everyone.

When naming our 4 year old we had 2 names but had already picked out his name.

We told people it was a choice between the two. My sister turned to me and oh not Ayden thats a naughty boys name. . His name is Ayden and suits him perfectly.

We ended up getting our Logan in the form of our 1 year old nephew...

Now we have to start from scratch with this one ?

Your son is wise beyond his years! ? My SO & I are struggling with this as well. It seems like every name I love, he hates! It’s so frustrating. I’m at the point where I’m like at least our son is getting his last name. I’m the one who has carried him for 9 months, so I should be able to name him whatever I want to. ? I hope you guys get it figured out soon!

No one likes our name either. it's very disheartening.

I wish people would just keep their opinions to themselves when it comes to naming baby. Even if they don’t like it, they should just go along with it . It’s hurtful when they say they don’t like it .

When I was expecting my twins we thought one was a girl and when I told my Mom my girl name she said she didn't like it I told her she would when it was her granddaughters name! lol I'm going to use it if this one is a girl!

My mother doesn’t like the name we’ve picked for a girl. Honestly even being my mom I could care less lol We’ll name our babe whatever we see fit in hopes they love it later in life as for everyone else I’ve close to saying “well I’m not a fan of your name but you don’t hear me going off about it” I think it’s funny that others feel they are in a position to share name opinions when not asked. It’s rude.

Not just names but all things baby. My MIL told us it was so nasty that we aren’t circumcising ?

The kid is right!

My mum called my daughter by a shortened version of her middle name (Izzy from Isabella) for the first three years of her life. She calls her by her first name now.

I had a girlfriend who claimed to hate the initial name I was going to go with and two years later she named her baby that exact thing.

We are having this issue with this baby! Some people love the names we’ve picked and some people are being ridiculous about them!
