Toddler problems HELP ?

I've been having so much problems with my two year old (he will be 3 in June) he just started talking a lot more and he's so RUDE! He's so demanding and controlling and I don't let him get away with it but sometimes he just lashes out and goes crazy. He especially does this in public. Last night I went to dinner with a friend and he just went nuts! He was screaming and crying and I could not control him. Everyone was looking at us. I took him to the bathroom multiple times to try and calm him down but everytime we went to go sit down, he started up again. We decided just to get our food to go. I couldn't help but cry. So you can imagine me with a screaming kid and then the super pregnant lady crying too. Not a pretty picture. I just don't know what to do! I can't control him and I wish he wouldn't talk back so much! How do I correct him? Any tips will be really helpful

I feel your pain momma. Not sure that I have any great advice for you just wanted to say that it's somewhat normal. I have had both of mine do this at some

Point either in a store or restaurant. Usually it's when they are overly tired.

Aw im sorry you have to go through this. I have an almost-2-year-old and hes been acting out more and more as i get further along in my pregnancy and more tired. Its getting really difficult. I just try to stay firm and consistent with him-not let him get away with stuff at home as opposed to out in public and stuff like that. If he was screaming in a restaurant id probably ask my friend to wait ten mins and take him in the car, and say "we will sit here until you calm down". And be firm, if he starts again in the restaurant do it over and over again. You could also try rewards, like tell him if he sits nicely and quietly during dinner he can have a cookie for dessert. I also bring an ipad to restaurants with me as a last resort, and snacks in my purse in case the food takes too long to come out. You have to be pretty harsh now while hes young so he knows he cant take advantage of you when hes older and uncontrollable. My husband is the type that hates when our son cries and gives him anything to make him stop, so when my hubby is home my son whines constantly to get what he wants. It drives my hubby crazy but i tell him not to give in and he always does. My son doesnt act out nearly as often when my hubby is not home because i ignore him and put him in time out if hes whining for no reason. I definitely have a shorter temper now that im about to give birth so i constantly feel guilty and like im a mean mommy but i know if he doesnt learn whos in control now then he will be a terror when hes older. Maybe you can tell him he will stay home next time if he acts out too. My son hates to be away from me so i just say "you need to sit quietly or i will take you home and you can stay there with grandma" or whoever. Best of luck to you mama i know its easier said than done and some days i cry as well because im just at my wits end with him. I hope he calms down for you after the baby comes!

We went through this with my daughter. She'll be 3 in May. We had to give her a choice between behaving or leaving. If she wasn't good. We would leave. It's consistency on the parents part. Time outs for poor behaviour are harder on us parents I think because WE need to be consistent and "mean business!" Once she figured out we weren't joking around, she totally turned around. She still has her moments (they are toddlers) but I'm glad

My husband and I stayed focus and worked as a team to teach her. Good luck! It's so hard!!!

It sometimes helps me if I have a talk with my 3 yo dd before going in public.. Like, in the car on the way. I ask her how's she's supposed to behave, and if not, we will go home immediately. I've left full grocery carts at the store because of her fits in the past. I know this is bribery, but I'll do things like promise her a Popsicle after...and she frequently loses that reward..makes it worse at the moment, but if you follow through, it's effective..

Thanks for the advice ladies. I try everything with my son and sometimes it works and when it doesn't, I just feel like I've lost control of him and I feel like a horrible parent. I just lost it last night and couldn't help but cry because I was just thinking how I couldn't handle ONE kid and I'm about to have two! I felt extremely overwhelmed with the thought. I was so glad my friend was understanding and when we came home, my friend told me to go to my room and she'll handle my son. She actually got him to calm down and then I got more sad! I was grateful but then I felt like a failure as a parent because not even I could control him. I guess being pregnant and having a toddler is just a bad combination lol

My daughter will be 3 in June too and she's been acting that way as well. She was never like that before. Everyone says its cause of the new baby coming..

Oh I remember the terrible 2s. It was the worst. My daughter is 5 now and I can still remember one day we drove about an hour to have a family day out. We pushed our 2 year old in the stroller because it was a lot of walking and she would get tired easily anyways we were ready to go walking back to the car and she decided she wanted to walk. I said no because it was a footpath next to a busy street with cars I didn't want to chase her if she ran onto the road. She started crying because we said no we are going home now. And she cried so much in the car seat she kept taking her seatbelt off and screaming and kicking and throwing her arms around. It was so embarrassing her poppa was in the car and he didn't know what was happening with her. I had to sit in the back of the car with her and hold her with the seatbelt over both of us. She did it for an hour. I think she forgot what she was screaming about and. Got herself more and more worked up. Once they get older they understand there is consequences to their actions and you can explain to them and they will understand why u say no

It's just babies and kids. They are spoiled esp when only children. It's not your fault and it's just a phase although I don't agree with terrible 2's Bc mine is 7 and still is rude to me but only when his dad (my husband ) isn't around. He knows better. It's my fault really Bc I fuss and then let him get away with it Bc I love him so much. Then I complain when I am embarrassed in public.

Toddlers sucks sometimes! Lol it's true!!!!!!

It's hard because they haven't learned how to deal with their emotions yet and it's still hard for them to distinguish between positive and negative attention. I have a few thoughts that will hopefully help:

For this particular situation at the restaurant: what was the underlying cause of his behavior? Was he hungry? Bored? Something else going on? I often find that when my toddler acts out there's something like hunger or boredom that's causing her to act that way. Because simply telling me she's hungry makes too much sense and screaming and acting crazy seems like a better way to communicate her needs. Lol

For the rudeness/talking back: How do the adults communicate in your house? Toddlers absorb waaaay more than we realize. I often find my toddler imitating my behavior or dh's behavior and sometimes it makes me cringe!!! It's really made me have to be constantly aware of my behavior! It's a work in progress, but I really try to watch the way I react to things in hopes to teach her better ways to react.

Hope this helps! Hang in there mommy! These days won't last forever!

@ashliresendez I could have written that reply exactly except it's my 7 year old daughter who sasses me. I've even told my husband I am going to video tape it because I think he thinks I'm exaggerating. She doesn't do it nearly as bad when he is here.

I would spank him and let him know you mean business! My DD almost 3 tried to start doing that about a month ago. She had always been amazing in restaurants this far. So I warned her if she didn't calm down and behave I was going to spank her for being rude and not listening. Well she kept at it I kept my word and she hasn't done it sense! They are just testing our limits right now. That's what kids do.

It's normal unfortunately just transition and terrible 2s best you can do is be patient. My now 3 year old went through a screaming hitting tantrum throwing breaking thing stage. He eased a bit still throwing tantrums. But it is normal. Hang in there mama I am sure you are doing great:)

We're going through a similar thing. She will generally listen after a few talking tos and time outs but she is so rude! No one has ever talked to her like that nor has she heard us talk to each other like that. I have no clue where she gets it but she is so demanding and crass. Ugh, if I hear "I want milk now" one more time I might scream. This is after weeks and weeks of prompting her to ask nicely and telling her it's rude to talk like that.
