FIL rant!
We have camp at an RV resort we go to a lot in the summer. DH and I were up there with the kids, my mil fil bil and his daughter. Fil demands stuff to be done (any work he is too lazy to ever do.) he asked when we planned to go back home on Sunday and I said pretty early because I had house work to get done. He said he has stuff done that bil and DH needed to do first and it's more important than me cleaning the house. Before I could get a word out he said I needed to learn and he was going to "train me like he has his kids trained" I was thrown off by this because my own parents don't talk to me like this and I wasn't going to allow him to talk to me like this. He does it all the time but this was my breaking point because it was in front of my kids and my niece. I told him I wasn't his kid then got up and walked away with my kids. DH didn't say a thing to him about the way he is always treating me. Idk what I have ever done to my fil. But he crossed a line when he said that and really made me feel like he doesn't like me

I'd be having a talk with my husband. As your husband, he needs to stand up for you.. Even if it's against his own family. He is a grown man and doesn't HAVE to do what your fil needs done, as soon as your fil wants it done. I do have to give you props, though, because if I was in your shoes, I would have chewed out my fil and my husband. You're a grown woman, you don't need "trained."

Sounds to me that you didn't need to do anything except disagree with him for him to treat you like that. Some people are just twisted and have a warped sense of power and control. You don't have to take it, but I would definitely have my husband handle it. If he won't, then I would avoid going around them.

Glad you said something and I would seriously have a talk to your husband say if his dad talks to you like that again and treats you like that you and your kids won't be seeing him because he's disrespectful and rude

DH and I got into a pretty big argument over it. He doesn't like confrontation. And while I understand that I'm his wife and his father completely disrespected me. I told him he needs to say something and that I will not be going up to camp anymore. He was out of line with me. DH said he understands but that's his father. His father doesn't act like that to DHs siblings spouses, only me.

So this post made me laugh. Only because that sounds EXACTLY like my fil. He is a truck driver so he is usually on the west coast but when he is home he would demand my husband to come fix his truck and basically be at his house the entire flipping weekend. His house is 30 minutes away and has a toll. So not only are we at his house where they let our kids run wild and basically tell them not to listen to me but we are paying $8 to go over there. Well things got heated about a year and a half ago (maybe two years) and I told my husband if they continued to treat me the way they did that I or the kids would not be making trips over there. Well we haven't been back since and we no longer speak to them. Every couple of months his sister will try to contact him but he won't answer. Our life is definitely a lot less drama free since we nixed them.
Side note: my step kids still go over because that is their mothers choice and she lives close enough to that without having to pay tolls but my daughters will not be going over.

@pp do we have the same fil?! lol he is a retired truck driver from an injury on the job. I told DH he needs to step up. His dad was out of line and disrespected me in front of my children and my niece. I've never been disrespectful to him. He came out and told DH that I don't respect him, well now I don't. Why should I respect you if you don't respect me? He thinks he can be the boss of everyone and even has an unwarranted opinion about how DH and I handle things with DDs father.

Wow. Lolol. I would have laughed so hard and called him out as a ignorant tyrannical sob, thanks but no thanks grandpa!! ?✌

My FIL is the exact same way and so is my SO he never stands up for me to him. I've just started being a batch to him and now he doesn't bother me anymore lol.

It's gotten to the point where I've called it quits with him. We watched the house and cats for them for 1 whole month while they were in India, not one time 2 times now. The other kids didn't, we did. We packed up my DD and I was pregnant and super sick and then when my DS was a newborn.
