Health insurance rant.
I am scheduled for a septoplasty in August. We have a $500 deductible and then we are responsible for 20% after that. Surgery is going to cost $11,890. We are responsible for $2,378. That is a lot of money! They broke it down as $7900.00 for a facility cost, $3,000.00 for the surgeon and $990 for anesthesia. Why the heck is the facility cost so much?! This is an outpatient surgery by the way. I'm so sad. I'm getting this done to help with sleeping problems and it's going to set us back on buying a house.

If you think about it, you are paying for more than just a facility. You're paying for the staff: front desk person checks you in. Preop nurses ready you for surgery. OR nurses take care of you during surgery. Scrub techs help the doc during surgery. EVS cleans up the room when your operation is done. Sterile tech cleans the instruments. Postop nurses take care of you while you're recovering. Then you've got the price of supplies and drugs. I know I've left out a bit but just to give you an idea of what goes into your one small surgery. It takes a village and that village needs to be paid. ?

Cams, I honestly didn't think of it that way. It's such a big number. I hope the surgery works since I'm spending so much money.

I had my first septo in 2010. It worked really well. I could finally breathe, stopped snoring and my nose wasn't running anymore after.
I had another nose surgery in 2015 to remove some polyps.
Word of advice: get soft stuff to eat for after. I liked yogurt, pudding, soup, Mac and cheese, etc. Nothing too hot. Stay on top of your pain meds. It will basically feel like a semi truck ran over your face. ? good luck.

Cams so are you telling me I have to stay away from coffee?! That's the only way I can function! How long did it take for the pain to subside.
I didn't know they had credit cards for stuff like that. It's worth me looking into. Thanks!

I don't think you'll be wanting anything hot for a while. If I remember correctly, hot liquids can cause more bleeding? Your doc will go over aftercare with you.
I think after a week I was doing better. That's all I took off of work.
