I can understand the sexual part. There are people who can't control their thoughts and actions as well as others. It gets very sexual for these people very quickly. Sometimes it can lead to being violated which is a scary thing for a mother and baby :(

The ignorance in this post makes me sick. Sex and breastfeeding should not even be compared or talked about in the same post.

This doesn't surprise me much nor does it anger me because I will nurse my child whenever and wherever my child demands due to his needs. However, I can see how in an over sexualized country and time, something that was naturally intended for nurturing has now taken on to be something highly offensive, inappropriate and debatable.

Simply put, more people are more sensitive to breast exposure in the sense it's provocative opposed to understanding the very reason WHY WE HAVE BREAST...TO NURSE!

There is absolutely nothing sexy about my giant boob smothering my hungry baby.. if any one gets sexually aroused by it, they must have some weird fetish!!! It's people that have views like that that make me nervous to nurse without a cover!

When NIP, it can become your problem if someone finds breastfeeding to be sexual. You run the risk of sexual assault when you NIP and you don't know the mental health and criminal history of everyone around you. That's why I think it's valid to consider that other people may find it to be sexual. No one wants to put their child in harms way, but it's something to think about when nursing in very crowded areas like malls, parks, airports etc.

When a woman has her breast out, I don't find it to be abnormal to consider that someone might find it to be sexual.

I don't know who you would blame if a mentally ill person were to make sexual comments about your baby, and maybe even try to touch your breast? But it's a risk that does grow the more people you are around that you don't know, especially when choosing to nurse without a cover. There are many woman who dress in skimpy clothing, and that's a risk they're willing to take. But to me you are at a whole new level of responsibility when you attach a baby to your breast because when you are assaulted, so is your baby.

My husband works in retail and has told me lots of stories in which the security cameras where observed ...very closely. Breastfeeding moms weren't immune to being "observed".

In this day and age it's super normal to pull out your phone and start recording. If a man wanted to use a video he captured of you nursing your baby to make a profit, would you feel like that is taking advantage of a child?

I agree with PP that the same can be said about wearing sandals. A lot of people have foot fetishes. What's to stop some guy from getting turned on and attacking me because I have some sexy espadrilles on?

Is there some sort of history of women being assaulted while breastfeeding? I can't find any stories saying that there is.
