So my SO has a huge family. Like HUGE. They are all so supportive and close to one another which is great ! Wednesday I'm being induced because I'm over my due date. Well I'm concerned about the number of people that are gonna be there running around, coming in to see me while I'm laboring and after I give birth. I know I'm gonna be in a lot of pain and want to be alone because that's who I am when I'm hurting. But I mean come on who wouldn't be annoyed... I'm talking like 22 people waiting in the waiting room and walking in and out of the room while I'm laboring. And I only know this because when my SO's sister had her baby there were that many there. Not only that it's gonna be hard on me ... but also my newborn baby! I told my husband tonight that I was gonna send a group text saying they can come after I give birth, no kissing baby on the face, and all hands have to be washed before you hold him, but he said no. He said that he will handle it when the time comes and it's his side of the family and he won't let there be chaos... what do I do ? Back off and trust him to take care of it or make sure my birth experience is in my own hands and that my baby isn't gonna be exposed to 22 people kissing him and whatnot...... haaalllppppppp

As for the laboring thing, just tell the nurses you want no one back there. They'll keep everyone out.

I would keep hounding him until he does if

I'd tell my otherhalf to let his family know that I wanted no one there during my labour or straight after. We'd inform them when they could visit. If he didn't understand that then we'd have a very big issue. this isn't about his family, or your family for that matter. It's about you and the baby. His first priority should be making sure you are comfortable and have as easy a delivery as possible.

Just tell the nurses right when you get there and they will kick people out and keep them out.

I wouldn't tell them when I was in labor. After I had my hour with baby, they could come and visit.
I didn't even want visitors at the hospital, I was so gross. I told people they could wait a day or 2, for us to come home and settle in.

I had 13 ppl in the room when I gave birth and prob around 20 ish in the waiting room I'm 1 of 11 kids and my SO has no siblings but super close with all 18 of his first cousins and 8 of his aunts and uncles on top of my parents so yea U get the point it was a circus ..lLuckily now these days they don't bathe baby right away so last thing anybody wanted to do is kiss my baby with all the placenta residue ? so the few ppl o saw almost kiss her I said "ummm you might not want to do that unless you wanna taste my placenta ??♀️ that stopped them real fast !!

I wasn't annoyed. I had 12 people in and out of my labor and delivery room and I loved it! I love that my family is so close and that they all wanted to celebrate with us and meet our new baby.
However, not everyone loves it as much as I do. If you don't want them there then you should say something ahead of time. It's your birth experience and you need to do what's right for you.

I'd let my husband handle it and talk to his family. But I'd probably also tell the nurses not to let anyone in and if a group of people showed up and weren't allowed in, it'd be on DH since he said he would handle it. As far as no kissing and hand washing, when people come to visit just be like oh the sink and soap is over there. If one person were to kiss LO face I would ask them not to and start bringing it to anyone's attention that came in not to do it.

Didn't you post about your immature MIL and SIL and how disrespectful they are to you? ( If another user, sorry!)
Going through labor is hard work. If you are uncomfortable with people coming in, then that is how it should be. It's best for you and for your baby.
When you get there, just let your nurse know that you don't want anyone in the room but you husband.
You are a mama now. Start to be the advocate for you baby. You got this mama! Good luck with your inductions! ?

Thankyou ladies !!!! All very good advice ! And yes I do have very immature MIL AND SIL but I'm not gonna keep them away from their grandson and nephew. I WILL set boundaries though !

First of all, I can't believe everyone is going to make it to your delivery. I have a big family too, but usually they have work or other obligations so they visit when they can, not all at once. And second, the nurses can kick everyone out when you want her to, and once visiting hours are up. Good luck!

I didnt read the comments, but just because your sister in law had that many, doesn't mean you will. I don't mean this in a rude way, but there is a difference between a direct family member, and someone who married in. They may give you more privacy.
I would let your husband handle it and when the time comes, if you need to lay down the law, do it.

Depending on how good he is about standing up to family and putting them in there place, would be the extent of me trusting him to handle it,
How good and firm is he at doing that???
If he's really good at it, and strong then I'd trust him, but also let the nurses know that you don't want anyone but your husband in the room( jut in case they try to sneak in and that your husband isn't constantly have to leave to deal with them.
If he's a people pleaser, and not good or consistent about putting them in their place or strong about it.
Then I'd not trust him, I would be suspicious that he just said it to shut me up, drop it on me when I'm to in pain and tired to argue about it, gang up on me so they can see baby have the run of the situation.
If he's like that then I'd take precautions and let staff know that under no circumstance are they aloud in the room till you say, I'd also make up a safe word and let the nurses know the word, so they can step in and escort them out...
I'd also send out a blanket email to the family stating that no one will be allowed in, that you will text or email individuals when you are recovered and allowing visitors...
That no one will be allowed to kiss the baby, and must wash/disinfect their hand before they handle baby.
All visits will be limited to X amount of time.
Etc.

I just snooped, and NO he won't put them in their place or stand up for you..
he's not going to handle it, op from your previous posts, he lets them disrespect, run all over you, speak horribly to you, and makes excuses for their behaviour, so he doesn't have to stand up to them....
The best predictor of future behaviour is, PAST behaviour.
Op open your eyes and set him straight...
I would not allow those people around my child and if I do it would only be if my husband grew a pair and started putting them in their place without me saying anything to him.
I'd be sitting my husband down and telling him just that, that I can't trust him or rely on him to protect me and our child, because he allows them to be mentally and emotionally abusive to me, he makes excuses for their behaviour, allows them to treat me badly and be undermining and controlling to me.
I would have written up the rules and boundaries along with what will happen if these boundaries and rules are broken...
I'd hand it to him, and let him know these out the house rules for his family, and you expect him to man up and enforce them.
Your going to protect yourself and your baby, from his family and even him if you have to...

It's hard in that aspect because it's not your family. Dd is 3 and I still have issues with dh side and he rarely speaks up and if I do then I'm heartless and all this other stuff. I would just flat out tell hospital staff hour request and when people do come, tell them to wash their hands and no kissing
deleted-user·
Serious question, how do some of you ladies get so many people in a labor/delivery room???? My hospital only allows 3ppl and they HAVE to be wearing a special wristband to be allowed in.
But I would most definitely let the nurses know who is allowed and who isn't...they are cut throat and will tell them how it is lol

I gave birth in central Texas. They expect big families and don't limit it unless it starts to become a problem or it's requested by mom. During the actual birth it was just me and my husband. But my family was there right before and right after.

@amedoz
My hospital has no limit as long as ppl are not blocking the door or in the doctors way I think I had more then normal but the LD intake lady is a family freind and gave me the largest delivery room and also my sister works as a RN delivery nurse so she got me kind of the hook up .. all my nurses where her friends and I got really spoiled by all of them .. but even at that my last 2 children 12&15 I had a lot of ppl in the delivery room without the special treatment and they allowed it all they ever said was no one can be on the side of the bed that's near the door just in case there's an emergency .

I had 10 people in the waiting room when my first was born but they never came in during labor except my mom stuck her head in a few times and my DH was in with me the whole time (except when he snuck out to eat a cold cut sub and came back stinking like onions ?)...but my labor took foreverrrrrrr so in sure they regretted sticking around! I was the first on either side of the family to have a baby so everyone was so excited. My last son, only my mom even knew we were going to the hospital because she had to come watch my older son (and it was midnight). Honestly I liked being alone with DH so much better! I didn't feel pressure from everyone waiting for me. But thankfully they weren't so pushy that they wanted to be IN the room with me- that would drive me insane. Our hospitals have a 2-3 person max anyway. I would just tell your nurses you don't want anyone coming in and out. They'll handle it for you!

Uh. No. I don't care how big a family you have! I have a huge family and I think it's disrespectful for them to all just be waiting and just expecting to be able to see you afterwards! After birth is bonding time with mommy and daddy. I didnt want visitors at all. But my mom and mil showed up while I was begin induced and it was terrible. I didn't get an epi until later and was in so much pain. And even after I go an epi it didn't work so I was still feeling the artificial contractions. It hurt. And with his mom there I felt like I couldn't be in pain because she's a judgmental butthole. I asked them all to leave. That was that. They didn't come back for a day or so either because I wanted bonding time with my newborn. I can't believe people just EXPECT to be able to see and hold baby right after birth. Wtf is wrong with them?
deleted-user·
So did 22 people show up? Lol
deleted-user·
I know what you mean... I had 13 people there from the time I started contracting until I had a c section 27 hours later... my fiancé wouldn't say anything. I was in pain and irritable and exposed and angry. I finally got angry and mentioned something to my dad and he cleared the room for me. They all stayed in the waiting room unless I told my dad it was okay for people to come in. This time I will be setting rules prior to the delivery and they will know about it.
