I wish I had and answer. I'm currently struggling with what's appropriate for my child's age. She is 16 months today and many times doesn't respond to commands of stop or no. She will look at me and laugh or sometimes look to see if I'm going to say something to her when she knows it's wrong to begin with. My hubby and I have been giving her hand tap when we tell her something after the 3rd time. She cries for 2 seconds which I think is basically because her feeling are hurt and 10 seconds later she is back to doing the same thing. I'm struggling with what else to do.
Been having a hard time with this for my 1.5 year old daughter. She runs away when I ask her to come or to give me whatever she's got in her hand she shouldn't have. It's getting hard on me because I am 29 weeks pregnant with her brother and chasing her down is hard. I just always stick to my guns. I tried hand taps but then she started hitting so we stopped that. I feel like a time out chair wouldn't register with her because she would forget by the time she got to the chair what she even did. When she responds to what I ask her to do we always tell her good job and we clap together, and she loves to clap for herself after doing well. (If we ask if her dinner was good she will clap lol) But the naughtiness is very frustrating. Hoping I find a method soon that works for us!
I'm under the theory that toddlers don't have mental capacity to completely understand right or wrong. So, unless it's hitting or bitting, I just redirect my little guy.
Well first be consistency is incredibly important and I don't believe in threatening. When my daughter was little she did temper tantrums and we would try to redirect or just try to talk to her that didn't work so what we would do is I would tell her " take it to your room if you want to cry go cry by your self " for a while she would cry for 30-45 minutes and now she does one of two things she will either go to her room till she's ready to talk if she's upset or she will just say can we please talk about it. At no point in time do I ever say I'm not going to tell you again or if you do that again then .... I personally believe there are things that are worth disciplining and some that are not but I refuse to threaten my daughter it's either discipline or don't .

My daughter just turned 2 and I had this same problem. The corner has been my go to and postive reinforcement seems to work wonders too.

Time out for my 5 yr old and take away tv/ toys! After sitting in the time out chair for a good 20 mins or so he's usually good after!
