4 days.

4 days until we move 9 hours away. This will be the farthest I have ever been from my family. My grandmother had been fairly hostile about it which sucks cause I've been living with her for the last 2 weeks while we wait to take possession of our place. I think she's kind of warming up to us leaving. She's taking my daughter and I to Wal-Mart later to get us some things we may need for the trip. I'm both terrified and excited about this move. I don't know anyone out there and I suffer from major anxiety. I told my husband to be patient with me when it comes to meeting new people and told him to tell his friend that's out there that I'm not rude it's just my anxiety affecting me. I guess sometimes my need to hide and discomfort around other people makes me come off as rude. Pfft. What are some good ways you ladies have coped with anxiety after moving really far away from everything you've ever really known? I'm freaking out inside. Also what are some things I may need to conquer this 9+ hour drive with a 6 month old? We would like to get there with our sanity in tact.

I'm sure everything will be okay, mama! I just moved 2 hours from my hometown and family, up to where DHs family is due to more jobs. I have been here since my son was 4-5 months and he's 9 months now. We make the 2 hr trip at least once a month. We bring movies and tons of toys for my son.

As for the anxiety, I don't know. I suffer from severe anxiety as well, and I still haven't made friends here.

I took my daughter on a 10 hour road trip when she was almost a year old. Like pp said, we just made frequent stops and took her out of the car and walked around for a bit. We sang a lot. We Brought snacks and toys. But we also left at night so she could sleep and we wouldn't hit traffic. But being in the car seat that long is uncomfortable I would imagine, plus she needed diaper changes. So we still made stops. A 10 hour trip turned into like a 13 hour trip.

And then we arrived and couldn't even get into our room for 2 hours. We slept for 3 hours and then had to go to a wedding ?

Yeah. My anxiety isn't a very fun thing. I can't even make a call to someone that I don't know really well. I can't breathe can't get words out my heart races and I get really shaky around people I don't know. It's gotten worse since I've had my daughter. I'm scared to take her out of the house in fear that some random is going to take her from me. I'm scared to get out of my car at night or go outside at night cause I'm scared I'm going to get abducted and my daughter is going to be alone in the car or house and No one is going to notice. I rehearse everything I'm about to say in my head so that I am prepared to say it cause I'm afraid of messing up. The amount of times I've rehearsed the "don't touch my daughter" screams in my head is ridiculous. A couple times every time we go out. I'm actually very surprised I've survived so long with my husband being away at work. He will be home tomorrow or Monday to help with the move and it's been 2 months since we've seen him. I'm not sure how this move is going to go with my anxiety and I told my husband that I'm going to have a hard time leaving the house for the first month or so without him because of it. I need to get used to my surroundings before I can start being around people. My husband's my rock. I feel secure around him. Without him I'm a major introvert and I don't talk to people. Doors are always locked and curtains are always closed. I'm just a wreck.

Have you ever gotten any professional help for your anxiety? I'm not trying to be a jerk, it just sounds like a lot for you to handle.

I've moved several times, basically across the country where I knew no one. I don't have anxiety so my advice might not be helpful but I guess you never know. First I would focus on getting my house situated. That would help me at least feel at home. Second I would try to get into a routine with running errands/going out to places. I made it a habit to go to the same places on the same day/around the same time until I started feeling more comfortable.

Something you could do that might not be so bad for your anxiety is look for information about your local area (get a paper, look for fb pages or community websites) read as much as you can about your surroundings. Check to see if there is a local library, there might be programs (story time, etc) that you could take your LO too.

Hope you have a great drive and find some things that make your transition easier.

I'm going to see a therapist or something when I get there. Is it a therapist that helps with this stuff? I can't remember. My husband will be home for a few days after we get there so he's going to be taking care of our daughter instead of me while I get as much situated as I can. My plan is to feel somewhat at home before he goes back to work. I'm going to take her on daily walks to get used to our neighborhood before I try to meet people. I think other people are one of the biggest parts of my anxiety.
