My dad gets pretty bent at of shape about Facebook announcements (he thinks the government or my mother somehow will see. Lol) So out of respects for him I always tell him the big stuff first, then tell my brother, and then my sister. In that order. And then wait till next day for Facebook. It would kinda be a slap in the face way to find out stuff about people who are supposed to be family or just close.

That is why I deleted my FB. It's a very lazy way for "family" and "friends" to keep in touch and I felt like people wouldn't even try to stay in touch without it...I was right lol. Oh well

Dh Facebook announced dds name before we even agreed on it. I didn't like it and everyone sent their cards addressed to dd with this name.

I didn't put my ring up on fb for a week cuz df didn't have time to tell his parents before fb. Extended family knew thro fb buy close family will know before bf. when df and I got engaged. And when I was prego I told family first then posted on fb once they knew first.

I found out my nieces name over Facebook.. I'm my sisters only sibling and she never told me the name..
I'd cancel FB, but, DH's family is everywhere but here and my army buddies are all over the world. For now, FB is the best way to keep in touch with everyone... (not to forget my crazy big family too! Well over 50 cousins, just from one side.)
I like the carrier pigeon idea. That takes super high level class. And timing and stuff. Coo, coo. ?

Tacky.
I still send important messages through a pigeon carrying a scroll.
Because im old fashioned like that.

I found out my sister, who was my best friend at the time was engaged through one of our friends who was drunk, she didn't want me-or anyone else close to her to know because he was an egotitical dick and they moved way too fast. I was so pissed I told the entire family, and then we all pretended we didn't know to see how long it would take her to tell us.
Oh but that's completely off topic, just s*** ty ways to give it important things.
And spaceship announcements before calling important ppl are tacky

I found out my sister was "engaged" through comments between her and her friend on a picture from MY wedding that my sister was tagged in..... I say "engaged" because my sister tends to go through guys frequently and most of them she was "engaged" to. All losers. But it was very irritating to find out that way.

I found out via Facebook when my cousins cancer returned. And of course when my grandmother and grandfather passed away (4 years apart) the people told first had to rush it on Facebook before my mom and aunt had time to call everyone. Some people don't think.

Maybe that's why the turn out was as big for my daughters bday party...
I like FB invites but only because when I ask for addresses I never receive them to send invites. Since all my friends & family are on FB 24/7 it seems like a good idea.
I would never do FB invite for a baby shower or wedding though. That's kinda tacky.
@ashley, cool that you announced it - AFTER telling your important people in your life. I understand this completely.
All my sis would have had to call is out mom/dad, one phone call and then posted the FB announcement. That would have made sense.

I told important people first then my Facebook world when I got engaged. I didn't even put anything about my pregnancy until I was 21 weeks.

@ashley - that was not directed at you or anyone else that replied to this post. Ashley- you rang the important people w the news and then posted, that's totally fine! I just don't get the ones that post for everyone and expect them to find things out through Facebook

I think I'm old fashioned, but I think its so inappropriate to announce important things on Facebook.
Pick up the phone. None of this texting thing. If it's important, then you need to TALK to people about it!!
I understand for out if town relatives and extended family. But sharing information with your Close friends and family on Facebook is just tacky..
But hey, I'm old fashioned. I have a handful of real friends, not the 200+ friends people seem to have on Facebook.

I announced my engagement on fb. It was a spur of the moment and happened at 11 at night. I called my mom, sister, and granparents then posted it. I'm a mom, I want to go to bed not spend 3 hours calling everyone. Ill read the congrats when I wake up.

Oh no, when I got engaged I rang my mum and grandad and best friend. THEN I announced to the world ! ?
Some FB announcements are cool. I get it for the convenience and communication, especially since so many people are on there and 'rely' on FB.
It's sad, though, when our mom finds out that my sis got engaged, through FB.. That's the eye roll.

I found out my grandpa died through Facebook. I wish people would learn there is a time and a place!

I'm one of those rude people ! ?
I send all invites, memos.. Messages announcements on Facebook. It's just easier then post these days... All my Friends and family are on Facebook and unlikely to not get it.

I find out everything on Facebook. Like my grandma being hospitalized. My sisters new husband. My cousin had a baby (didn't even know she was pregnant)
