Grocery bill I'm curious what you each spend weekly on groceries...we're a family of 6 and we spend…

Groceries are expensive and if I'm correct you live in Canada? I live in Michigan but all my family's across the border in Ontario, when I go to the store there?omg the meat and cheese, everything is so expensive! I think the quality standards are much better there than here but wow I can see how the grocery bill can get wayyyy outta hand.

I posted awhile back about cost for childbirth and everyone from Europe and Canada said basically "Thank God I don't live in the U.S.!" But its all relative. We spend a lot on healthcare premiums and copay but we can get plentiful, healthy, organic food readily and inexpensive and taxes are less. Family of 6 (2 dogs included) and we spend under $50 a week. And with that our fridge and pantry is still always full at the end of the week- we just run out of favorites/staples- milk, shredded cheese, fresh fruits and veggies, tortillas, chips and OJ. ??

About $80-120 a week for the two of us not including $30 for formula. This does include paper goods and toiletries too though.

@sweetmelissa...wow under $50 a week amazing. I guess it's all in perspective like you said. And were feeding 2 adults, a very hungry teenager and two big appetites for the younger ones so that also can be more...and school lunches..and no garden...and we want more kids....eeek

Yeah it's expensive here especially if you're eating healthy..It's cheap if you want to eat bad....which is crazy

Wow I can not believe the price difference between Canada and the US. That's insane. Hubby and I and baby are about $250-300 a week. We mostly buy fruits and vegetables and chicken but wow does it hurt the pockets

You gals in Canada would freak lol. I'm lucky bc I participate in a community garden which gives me free produce from the end of the summer through hopefully the beginning of October. We have a grocery store here in Ct called Aldi. It's the best I buy all organic from them. Eggs are 85 cents a dozen, organic bananas for Jude and for my smoothies are 59 cents per pound. I went today and got 2 bags of raw spinach, bananas, good coffee, 2 1/2 gallons of coconut milk, coffee creamer, organic chicken sausage, bread, and organic onions. I paid $29 and that's all we needed this week. I'd say on average we spend between $35-55 per week. It could go up to $80 if I'm stocking up on meat etc. it's just DH, myself, and Jude though.

Great point Melissa! I actually got the idea from Melissa to blanch and freeze any extra veggies for winter so our freezer is pretty full. Thank goodness there's a spare down the basement!

I'm in Canada too. Prices are insane. We pay about $100-$150 a week (2 adults) and I try to buy organic as mush as possible. I will only buy meat from our local butcher because it is much higher quality and way cheaper. The butcher also freezer bags it as we want it. I have a huge garden, apple trees and raise chickens for eggs. To cut down on food costs we also have at least one vegetarian meal a week. And add another $90 or so a week for wine and formula.. we also get screwed on our alcohol prices.

We also do a bunch of vegetarian/ vegan meals.

Shari at least you save on formula! Could you possibly do a garden?

Family of 4 here and we probably spend about $300 a month.

For me, my sister and hubby we spend $150 a week. I buy local meat. Local fruit and veggies are hard to come by here, we live in the Quachita Mountains so it's impossible to grow anything. I do buy some stuff while in Michigan and/or if we go to south Arkansas or Texas and can it. Organic is way overpriced. In Arkansas we have Kroger, Walmart, Sams club and few other little chains. It sucks not having more options, it jacks are prices up ?

150 is actually a lot considered out cost of living is low and so are taxes but they pack both their lunches and I never eat out! We do a meat, veggie and carb every night.

I say we go grocery about once a month and like everything including meats and stuff runs us about $200. Doesn't include formula though. But we don't get a lot of junk food and one meal lasts us like two mealtimes. So it's not too bad.

I used to live in California and it cost a lot more down there but Michigan seems to be cheaper.

Just my husband and I spend 300 a month on grocery’s. We shop wholesale and get little stuff from the grocery store. It reeeeally comes in handy. We save a ton of money.

@Jess yeah I save on formula thank goodness!!! I had a part of the community garden and picked from it a few times but honestly didn't get much from it. I bought what was supposed to be cucumbers ready to be planted but turned out to be pumpkins I noticed last week lol...the lady made a mistake..we did get a deep freeze full of strawberries, I kind of did it for fun for the kids and so next year I'll be more serious about it.

I have a pretty big garden here too. Which saves some money. This year we grew peppers, spinach, lettuce, zucchini, butternut squash, potatoes, tomatoes, Brussels sprouts and beans. I'll. e glad when Clara is old enough to help weed it thought

We do $110 a week but it never seems enough. We live in rural MN and travel about 25 minuets to get to a decent grocery store. We don't buy much junk. Maybe chips here and there and ice cream as a special treat. Luckily this summer/fall along with our small garden and one of our neighbors (he brings bags and bags of fresh veggies from his giant garden) we've been set on veggies and I have fresh corn and tomatoes in the freezer for this winter. Plus my father in law works at a canning factory and a few times a year they sell 12-24 packs of canned veggies for dirt cheap so we stock up that way too for winter. Coupons help but meal planning has been a life saver!

Yes I agree, I've noticed that meal planning really does cut costs
