What inspires a man to be a gynaecologist???
I just came back from my pp checkup and while sitting in the room waiting for the doctor to come do my Pap test (which I am so uncomfortable about and anxious, especially when it's a man) I got thinking, "Why does a man want to be a gynaecologist anyways?"

Haha, DH wonders that too. I'm fine with a man OBGYN but it creeps him out a little. I don't know the answer sadly. What puzzles me is anyone who wants to be a proctologist ?. Maybe OBs and proctologists chose it becaise of family history, like their mom's or family members had a medical issues?

I don't really feel comfortable with a male down there either. There are too many crazies the world and he could have chosen a different sector in the field, what's his motives ?

Obstetrics/Gynecology is one of the happiest fields for an MD to choose, man or woman. There will always be a few weirdos in every profession but I'm sure for the most part they just enjoy helping to help families bring babies into the world more than they would enjoy working with patients who are having an illness or serious medical issues.

They make a lot of money

Yes you're right, I totally get the baby side of it. So maybe they just want to be the obstetrician and unfortunately have to do the gynaecology aspect too? I guess even being a family doctor means having to do paps.
Ok so is there strictly gynaecologist then or is it always paired with obstetrician...then that changes things then cause they'd have no choice.
If a guy were to strictly want to be a gynaecologist I'd have to wonder!!

I think its a cake walk for them. plus they make bank. insurance money and constant buisness flow.(I'm sure the world has more females than males in it) all vags look the same... That being said they probably know exactly what to look for. I'd prefer a male doctor... I feel women judge too much. I don't think it's anything sexual... My doctor is so good.

It's not as simple as "I want to be gyn". In USA there is Match program that pairs medical students to their residency. Based on your scores - interviewes you had, recommendations written for you; what programs think of you. Then algorithms match you to best programs.
Gyn is very sought after. And one doesn't need to be Ob-gyn. You can be gyn only. Most doctors specialize in both tho - as it comes in handy.
And the seeing lady parts - absolutely not. Sure there will be couple freaks who slip thru the cracks - but that's everywhere.

With how long and expensive schooling is the become a gynecologist I doubt men do it just to look at lady parts. At my clinic all the gynecologist are also obstetricians, not sure if all hospitals are like that or not. So maybe they get into the field with the motive to deliver babies.
I feel way more comfortable with a female doctor and have heard many people say the same thing. I always wondered why there were 4 male OBs and only 2 females at my hospital

I'd say they must genuinely care about birth and women's health all together then. My obgyn is so nice, he's an older gentlemen and when he took baby out he was thrilled, what a moment it must be for them as well...maybe they want to feel like Superheroes and be considered the best doctors out there cause they deliver little miracles!

Well my OB/GYN is a male and I have been going to him since I was 16. I've never felt uncomfortable with him. He has a woman practican and she did my check up once. Let me tell you that he is a lot more gentle. I never thought of asking him why he chose the field but you can tell he loves his job and is great at it. He delivered my 3 kids and even the nurses at the hospital have him deliver their babies. Everyone seems to know him and trust him. Would never change OBs.

My obgyn is male and I absolutely LOVE him. He's delivered all 4 of my boys now. Everytime I come in he says "how's my babies?" And he always gives me hugs and he definitely caters to me as a patient. I can only imagine how everyone else feels about him because his office is always packed. When I had my first son his office was strictly male doctors and all 3 were nice. I never felt funny about it. But I'm pretty open. Hell, at work one of my coworkers wanted to watch me pump...and she watched in amazement lol. I know my ob said he wished his wife had more children. And this whole world was created on the backs of women so maybe they look at it that way. A woman is an amazing creature. We can do all kind of things that men can't and never will be able to do (hopefully) and I just love babies so I could imagine

My OB/gyn is a male. I started going to him when I got pregnant with my first. My first impression of him was that he was kind and understanding. Never made me feel uncomfortable. He's also very gentle when it comes to examinations. I've had women gyn before and they weren't understanding or sympathetic and very rough. I really like my doctor and a lot of people do too. He's changed offices a few times and all his patients follow him.
