Back to sleep ? (baby sleep position)

Back to sleep ? (baby sleep position)

Where I'm from they have studies to show babies are safer sleeping on their back. (SIDS prevention)

I live in Canada and I have always been told babies sleep on their backs.

Yea, they say the back. Although I have discovered she likes laying on her side better. I just wish it was as "safe."

The hospital nurse told me they had thought tummy was best for years because they thought babies would choke on their backs. They told me to have my son on his tummy to sleep, now this baby on it's back. I see though that it would be harder for baby to move its head and could get stuck and not breathe while on its tummy.

May my pediatrician told me that if baby starts on back but puts themselves in the side position it's fine. Mine does this too sometimes and I was worried.

I've always heard back but back when we were born they said tummy. Research changes everyday I swear. I just lay him swaddled on his back and he stays that way just turns his head side to side.

Yes we're also told to put baby on their back, with feet touching the bottom of the basket, with blanket below shoulders and tucked in at the sides. We're told this before being discharged from hospital (UK)

Ok so I'll be the crazy one. Jude was sleeping terribly swaddled on his back and once he started spitting up I'd wake up all night long to sit him up and clear his airway. For a while he would only get rest on one of our chests (after his surgery). I monitor him on video even though he's 5 feet away from us at night. He's been doing tummy time since early on so he has good neck control. He's 6 weeks and has been sleeping on his belly for over a week. He's comfy and he can lift his own head. No more choking and he puts himself to sleep. He's just a natural born belly sleeper. So what's best for your baby. ☺️

I have older kids, 20 and 15 and was told to have them sleep on their tummies. They also had bumpers in their cribs. The sides if their cribs also dropped down. Now I have a 4 yr old and a newborn and all the "rules" have changed. In 5 more years I'm sure there will be new ways of doing things. I say do what works best for your little one. Dylan hates being on his back. He wont lie flat in his bassinet and moves himself to his side. He knows what he wants.

I was told back is best also. My kiddos never seemed to mind it & I had them in a rock n play which keeps them slightly inclined.

The hospital did tell me they are not recommending swaddling in blankets anymore. They only recommend the swaddle sacks, like a halo. There was an increase in SIDS this last year and they are testing the theory swaddling may be connected.

I think they are just taking a stab in the dark with all this stuff... bumpers, back, blankets because they have no idea what is causing SIDS.
