Laboring in water
To those who have labored in water, do you think it reduced the pain at all? My hospital has one labor tub that they say rarely gets used so I'm considering trying it if possible when the time comes. Just curious if those with experience just found it relaxing or actually thought it made the contractions less painful

So I personally didn’t think it affected my pain at all but I laboured for 3 hours and dilated 1 cm (from 4 to 5) i finally went in bath and within 25 mins I was 9 cm so I believe it really helped move things along.

It probably helped you relax, based on your quick progress

Yes, I think it helped reduce the pain. I can't imagine having to get back out to push though! I had a complete water birth for my last. It was pretty comfortable the whole time and I loved it.

@tara that's partially my concern! They only allow laboring in the tub so I'm worried that if it does reduce the pain when I have to get out it'll be all the worse

When you’re in the tub you definitely still feel the pain, you don’t realize how much it helps ease it until you get out! That’s how it was when I labored in the tub. As soon as I got out of the tub, my contractions felt a million times more painful.

Ya, that would stink. Someone would have seriously had to physically remove me too. There's no way I could have got out at that point, physically.
