When did your baby first show an interest in toys?

What?! How is that surprising? My kids could have cared less until they were 3 months. Until then, it was all about the ceiling fans haha.

They can't see very well or use their hands when they're this little. I've seen the best thing for them, at this age, is to look at faces and patterns.

Yeah I agree.. why surprised? My son only takes an interest to lights and anything that spins like the fan or a mobile. My son does like looking at himself though, he thinks that's super interesting and nothing can distract him when he's staring at himself. He's 7 weeks tomorrow.l

That's weird that your pedi said that! Just giving you reason to worry when you shouldn't. My son likes a rattle but that's probably because of the noise it makes. He loves looking out the window and he's taken interest in the mobile in his crib. Other than that, no real coordination to pick up toys!

My son will play on his activity may and hit the hanging toys but that's about it. He's 7 weeks.

Okay you Mamas are making me feel better! My daughter hardly ever cries, and the pedi has never heard her cry despite efforts to agitate DD. So doc was asking us questions like does she ever cry (yes!), does she react to loud sounds (yes!), does she follow you with her eyes (yes!). When she asked if she grasps for toys and I said no she acted like that was something she should be doing. I thought it was a bit early yet...

My daughter is 5 weeks the only thing she does is follow toys with her eyes and looks around the room... she also likes to look at faces. Smiles. And tries to make notices when you talk to her. Sometimes tries to get her fist into her mouth but rarely is able to keep it in there for more than a few seconds...

That is really weird that the pediatrician was surprised that she doesn't play with toys? at this age they still don't have control over thier hands!

Ugh, some people are weird! My son always behaves when other people are around. He doesn't cry, but when mud is home he cries all the time! People just don't Believe the struggle! Lol! Of course your LO is not going to act out in the pediatricians office! Hahaha!
