#mombassadorchat Happy World Breastfeeding Week! Please share your breastfeeding stories and tips! Hi everyone! @kimberlyyyy_the-preemie-mom here. For today's chat we're going to talk about breastfeeding and pumping in honor of World Breastfeeding Week! Both can seem complicated or stressful, but remember you have lots of support here! With my first son I had things going against us for breastfeeding. I wish I knew back when he was younger that we could have still tried! With my second son I was determined to breastfeed, and even though he was born 11 weeks early I wasn't going to let that stop us from trying to breastfeed! For 7 weeks I pumped every 2 1/2-3 hours on the dot to establish and maintain my milk supply. When your little one is born early they usually need time to master sucking, swallowing, and breathing so I wasn't able to nurse right away. When my son was 33 weeks gestational (so 4 weeks old) we were finally able to latch on, and he did great! By 36 weeks gestational we had successfully started breastfeeding, and today marks 21 months of actual at-breast breastfeeding for us! I am passionate in trying to help moms-to-be and moms with breastfeeding and/or pumping, but I support moms who choose not to or for other reasons cannot breastfeed. Remember, I mentioned I didn't breastfeed my first son. I understand both sides. Breastfeeding isn't always easy, but I believe it's at least worth trying! Please help me celebrate World Breastfeeding Week by sharing your tips, questions, concerns, product recommendations, or anything else breastfeeding and pumping related! If you have a question for @kimberlyyyy_the-preemie-mom, please tag her in the comments below! Or share your advice and feeding stories.

I'm sorry it has been so hard! Have you talked to a lactation consultant? She may be able to help you figure out why your LO is pulling off. Reflux? Tongue tie? Have either of those been checked? Hang in there, mama!!

I've seen one a couple times and it seems that things go okay while I'm there but when I get home it all goes to s*** again.. They've checked for tongue tie but not reflux. In not sure the signs of reflux but he hiccups a lot and just now he spit up all of the milk I managed to feed him. He's gaining weight okay so he's getting milk but I actually dread breastfeeding

Sounds like reflux. My oldest was a refluxer, and this LO has a bit of it too. My letdown is also forceful so that doesn't help either.

My letdown is the same- he's often choking on my milk which is probably another reason he pulls off. What can even be done for reflux ?

I'm sorry you're having such a hard time. We had a difficult time with her latch in the beginning and use a nipple shield. Have you tried that? My lo has the hiccups a lot and does spit up occasionally, but does not have reflux.
Also, we do the cradle hold on her favored breast and football on the other.

I saw multiple lactation consultants for issues we have been having. I was also ready to throw in the towel but my doctor recommended one more really, really good one so I gave it a shot. She made a plan for me and we have follow up phone calls and appointments and I've already seen improvements in the first day. Maybe try a different LC? Seriously I have seen at least 5 of them and they all say something different!

Is it your latch you are having trouble with? If so you tube the flipple. Sounds funny but seriously saved my nips!
Also have you tried laid back nursing where you lay back propped on pillows and put baby tummy to tummy? It helps make my let down more manageable and helps the latch because baby does it naturally!
I've also found that having my girl in almost sitting position helps both issues too.

@nrod0215 the doctor who corrected my baby's lip and tongue ties told me to look up the flipple and the videos make it look so easy! I've got the technique down but my problem is after the initial time of doing it my baby's lips and my finger get slobbery so then my finger slides out and is unable to flip his lip. I say the initial time because I always have to do it several times because he's not used to it and will lose his latch and start over. Do you have any pointers? I hope this makes sense.

This is the best explanation I found the video really helped me.. I don't hold my hand there once baby is latched I let go.
